What are the responsibilities and job description for the Building Maintenance Specialist position at Matanuska-Susitna Borough?
This position will provide varied Building Maintenance duties to support the facilities of Port MacKenzie. In addition to the general Building Maintenance Specialist duties outlined in the Building Maintenance Specialist job description, the Port MacKenzie Building Maintenance Specialist will also serve as an alternate Facility Security Officer (FSO) in the absence of the Port Operations Manager, Assistant Port Operations Manager, or Port Administrative Specialist. This will require compliance with 33CFR105 and interfacing with the US Coast Guard, ship agents and vessel crew as well as provide security guard coordination and training as needed.

L1 - L5 - DOEHigh School diploma or equivalent.
Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the occupational field, sufficient to understand the major duties of the position, and to be able to answer questions and resolve problems. Related experience may include: performing building maintenance in a professional capacity, groundskeeping, snow removal, customer relations, knowledge of maritime and port procedures, ability to work independently, professional experience with security and/or safety plans, ability to interpret and follow standard operating procedures.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card is required.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Alaska for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical, and background check.
Completion of required Incident Command System (ICS) courses in accordance with established Borough policy.
- Performs carpentry work in the renovation, alteration, and maintenance of buildings, floors, roofs, partitions, doors, windows, and wooden fixtures; installs hardware on doors windows, and furniture; glazes windows and doors.
- Installs new plumbing equipment, fixtures and parts.
- Replaces lamps, ballasts, switches, receptacles, dimmers, etc.
- Paints interior and exterior surfaces.
- Repairs and installs plaster and sheetrock.
- Installs tile and carpet.
- Removes snow and ice from sidewalks, stairs, ramps, and decks.
- Provides direction to contractors performing skilled maintenance and renovation duties.
- Diagnoses building maintenance and repair needs.
- Respond to emergency calls for service.
- May serve as point of contact for contractors and Port Terminal Operators as needed and/or required.
- Perform custodial duties.
- Performs related duties.
Salary : $30 - $33
