Survey Field Assistant
We are searching for an experienced Survey Field Assistant at our Palmer HQ facility.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities :
Work in support of M.T.A. OSP design, permitting, construction and other duties as assigned, under the supervision of the Land Base Manager. Maintain compliance with AS 08.48.341(13), "practice of land surveying".
SPECIFIC TASK DESCRIPTION
- Conduct field surveys utilizing conventional and GPS survey techniques in support of design and construction of outside plant projects.
- Maintain and implement a georeferenced database of in-house survey data to produce maximum efficiencies and to allow for the expedient access of both new and legacy survey data.
- Provide field surveys in support of OSP engineers and ROW personnel for the evaluation and design of proposed routes for new projects. This covers all aspects of the survey from research and planning, the field collection of data to the preparation of drawings depicting the locations of property lines, rights of way, easements and existing and proposed improvements.
- Prepare exhibits for easement acquisition and review legal descriptions for accuracy and potential conflicts under the supervision of the RLS Land Base Manager.
- In support of construction, provide field staking of property lines, rights of way, easements and the restoration of damaged or lost property corners.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications :
EDUCATION :
Minimum of Associate of Arts degree in related land surveying (Geomatics) having achieved the education requirement for registration with the State of Alaska, Board of AELS, and to sit for or have passed the State LSIT (Land Surveyor in Training, also known as, the NCEES Fundamental of Surveying) exam, within 6 months of hire date.
WORK EXPERIENCE :
Minimum of six (6) months' general experience in areas of field collection and analysis of survey data and coordinate geometry. Skills in GPS and conventional survey techniques using modern data collector software. Office tasks that involve but are not limited to, drafting, research, quality control, data reduction, GPS post processing, drafting using CAD and other survey specific software.
