We are currently seeking a Writing Teacher to join our 7th Grade Team at Matchbook Learning at Wendell Phillips School 63. Position Overview We are seeking a dedicated and passionate 7th Grade Writing Teacher who will have a strong foundation in writing instruction, an ability to foster creativity, and a commitment to developing students' skills in various types of writing. Key Responsibilities These are the key responsibilities of a Writing Teacher. Teachers may have other duties as assigned. Plan and deliver engaging reading lessons aligned with state standards to promote literacy and critical thinking. Incorporate a variety of instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs and learning styles. Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement interdisciplinary lessons that integrate science content. Provide effective science instruction during assigned weeks, using hands-on activities and experiments to foster inquiry-based learning. Assess and monitor student progress in reading and science through formative and summative assessments. Maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment that supports student engagement and success. Communicate regularly with students, parents, and colleagues to support academic growth and address challenges. Requirements Education : Bachelor’s degree in Education, Elementary Education, or a related field. Certification : State Standard teaching certification or equivalent out-of-state certificate. Experience : Previous experience working with elementary or middle school students is strongly preferred. Skills : Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to create a positive and inclusive classroom environment. Ability to adapt lessons and teaching techniques to meet the needs of diverse learners. Commitment to professional growth and development. Ability to be flexible in a fast-paced, changing environment. Physical Requirements : Ability to lift up to 20 pounds, bend, kneel, and sit on the floor to work with students. Preferred Qualifications At least two years teaching experience in an urban or low-income setting. Demonstrated a record of success in the classroom (as a classroom teacher preferred, assistant and student teaching evidence considered). Familiarity with current educational technology and digital learning tools. Demonstrated an understanding of how to effectively analyze student data to guide instruction.
