We operate two schools : Matchbook Learning at Wendell Phillips School 63, serving students in Kindergarten through 8th grade, and The Match High School and Career Center, which currently serves 9th grade students and will expand to include 9th and 10th grade students in the fall of 2025. We are currently seeking an Art Teacher to join our team at Matchbook Learning at Wendell Phillips School 63 for the 2025-2026 school year. Position Overview The Art Teacher is responsible for developing and delivering an engaging visual arts curriculum that fosters creativity, self-expression, and an appreciation for the arts. The ideal candidate will inspire students through diverse artistic mediums while cultivating an inclusive and supportive learning environment. Key Responsibilities These are the key responsibilities of an Art Teacher. Teachers may have other duties as assigned. Develop and implement an engaging K-8 visual arts curriculum. Teach various artistic techniques and media. Foster creativity, critical thinking, and artistic expression. Adapt lessons to different skill levels and learning styles. Organize and display student artwork. Maintain a safe and organized classroom. Collaborate with educators on cross-curricular projects. Assess student progress and provide feedback. Communicate with parents about student development. Requirements Education : Bachelor’s degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, or a related field. Certification : Valid state teaching certification in Art Education (K-8 or equivalent endorsement). Experience : Experience teaching art to elementary and middle school students. Skills : Strong knowledge of artistic techniques, art history, and contemporary practices. Ability to differentiate instruction and engage diverse learners. Excellent communication, organization, and classroom management skills. Commitment to fostering a creative and inclusive classroom environment. Ability to be flexible in a fast-paced, changing environment. Physical Requirements : Ability to lift up to 20 pounds, bend, kneel, and sit on the floor to work with students. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in Art Education or a related field. Experience integrating technology into the art curriculum. Familiarity with contemporary and multicultural art education practices. Experience organizing art shows, competitions, or community projects.
