SUMMARY :
The Sr. Project Scientist – Wastewater Operator / Wastewater Process Engineer will lead Material Matters’ Wastewater Team, serving as the direct report for the wastewater team members, and providing applied, technical wastewater expertise focused on providing solutions to clients in the wastewater and water industries.
The role requires candidates to manage wastewater projects consisting of wastewater operational support and troubleshooting, innovative operational and / or design solutions to improve biosolids quality, regulatory guidance, and assistance with bidding and contracts related to biosolids management. The candidate will lead business development opportunities both inside and outside the Wastewater business line and lead proposal efforts. The position will identify staffing needs within the business line, and support with filling needed roles. Must be able to work with limited supervision and have competencies with computer applications, including Excel, Word & electronic communications.
The ideal candidate is a self-starter with a robust leadership and project management background, an understanding of wastewater operations and regulations, and excellent organizational and time management skills. REPORTS TO : CEO
PRINCIPAL TASKS :
- Troubleshoots wastewater treatment processes and their functions, specifically solids processing and handling. Visits wastewater treatment plants to observe existing operations and identify challenges and develop solutions.
- Identifies innovative solutions for municipal and industrial wastewater and water treatment facilities, specifically related to solids treatment and handling and residuals management.
- Manages staff operating within the wastewater business line. Provides training and guidance to junior staff.
- Performs project management functions such as project scheduling, budget tracking, and client interface.
- Leads business development, including identifying business opportunities and proposal development, and strategic participation in regional and national professional organizations.
- Reviews, interprets, and understands state and federal environmental regulations, specifically those relating to biosolids, water treatment residuals, food processing residuals, and other residuals management
- Prepares and / or reviews written reports and regulatory forms for submittal to regulatory agencies and clients.
- Assists clients with improving wastewater treatment operations and laboratory practices.
- Completes administrative tasks as timesheets, expense reports, and workload projections.
- Miscellaneous duties as needed.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES & REGISTRATIONS :
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS :
Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or related science field. Master’s Degree preferred.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in wastewater treatment consulting or wastewater operations, including experience managing projects.
