Position Overview: The Senior Accountant is a pivotal role at MSC, focused on maintaining the integrity of financial processes and ensuring accurate and compliant reporting. This position requires expertise in general ledger reconciliations, journal entry processing, and financial schedule management. The Senior Accountant will oversee key financial operations, including accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR), while supporting month-end closing and cash flow management. Collaborating closely with the Director of Finance, this individual will also serve as a resource for the AP/AR Specialist, ensuring streamlined operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- General Ledger Oversight:
- Maintain and reconcile the general ledger, ensuring the accuracy of all financial transactions.
- Review and post daily AP and AR transactions, ensuring compliance with company policies.
- Reconcile and maintain monthly financial schedules, including fixed assets/depreciation, inventory, and budgeted expenses.
- Conduct financial data reviews to identify and address discrepancies.
- Assist the Director of Finance with month-end closing procedures, including journal entries and variance analyses.
- Prepare financial reports and documentation for management review.
- File monthly sales/use taxes for relevant locations, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations.
- Monitor changes in tax laws and regulations, ensuring adherence to new requirements.
- Monitor cash flow and manage working capital to support operational stability.
- Reconcile payroll to ensure accurate and timely submissions.
- Provide leadership and support to the AP/AR Specialist, fostering an efficient and collaborative team environment.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to align financial goals with operational objectives.
Requirements:
- Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting (required); MBA preferred.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Experience in manufacturing environments and/or DoD/government contracts is helpful but not required.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Experience with Deltek Costpoint is helpful but not required.
