An individual in this Quality Engineer position will support Performance Alloys and Composites manufacturing by focusing on quality processes including customer complaints, auditing, corrective action, continuous improvement, quality systems, process control, and other assigned activities. This individual will manage various Quality System procedures, report key business metrics, collect and present relevant data, independently manage projects, and collaborate with cross-functional teams. A critical responsibility is managing and facilitating activities for assigned business areas, as required, with Customers, Operations, Purchasing, Engineering, Sales, and Marketing. The individual is expected to work independently and utilize teams with minimal supervision required to achieve goals. An individual with a background in metallurgy, engineering, chemistry, or materials science is preferred for this position.
You Will Have the Opportunity to:
1. Serve as the primary Quality leader for assigned area(s).
2. Develop and execute an annual Quality plan for each assigned area, including goals, training, and internal audits.
3. Serve as the subject matter expert about Quality issues for assigned areas.
Help manage and improve the AS9100D / ISO9001:2015 quality system by maintaining an in-depth technical knowledge of the AS9100D / ISO 9001:2015 quality standard.
Manage customer complaints, material reviews, and 8Ds in assigned areas.
Participate in or facilitate corrective action teams to identify and implement improvements and permanent corrective actions.
Prepare reports and presentations in support of customer, manufacturing, or vendor issues, reporting on the status of activities and key quality metrics. Participate in area meetings to review Quality metrics and activities.
REQUIREMENTS:
• BS engineering, chemistry, materials science, metallurgy, or other technical degree from an accredited college or university.
• Demonstrated Continuous Improvement skills resulting in significant cost savings. Six Sigma or Lean Sigma GB/BB certification desired.
• Previous experience of 3 years' or more in quality engineering, preferably in a metals manufacturing environment.
• Working knowledge of AS9100D / ISO 9001:2015 quality systems; experienced auditor a plus.
• Strong problem-solving skills and experience with customer complaints, corrective actions, and 8Ds.
• Ability and willingness to travel to Materion facilities, customers, and vendors. Domestic travel is expected at 10% to 20%, depending on changing business needs.
