Matern Staffing is hiring a Controller for an environment construction company in King George, VA. The Controller plays a key leadership role in ensuring the financial health and integrity of the organization through effective financial management, reporting, and control processes.

Working under direction of the President, the Controller will oversee the accounting and human resources departments. Additionally, you’ll be a trusted partner with internal departments as you build process improvements, manage project billing and promote best practices to support the company’s commitment to customer success and improving water quality.

Key Goals :

Manages the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the accounting operation for various construction, investment, commercial, residential companies. Provides financial monitoring of these entities to ensure profitable billings, positive cash flow, and proactive identification of actual and potential issues.
Ensures accounting team assists leadership / project management team in understanding project costing and developing and maintaining processes to support operations in making better decisions or corrective actions in support of the business.
Assists in establishing and maintaining proper procedures and processes so that financial information is accurately and consistently reported, attaining all monthly, quarterly, and annual deadlines.
Leads the day-to-day accounting operation with either functional responsibility for or cooperative responsibility for accounting functions such as : accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, Human resources, CPA reviews, insurance.

Salary : $85,000 - $105,000

What You'll Do :

Operates Accounting (inclusive of personnel supervision and performance evaluation duties) and Human Resources Department

Directs accounting department including AR, AP, GL management, cost accounting, monthly bank reconciliation, month end and year end closing, and payroll

Prepares and files monthly, quarterly, and annual payroll tax returns

Manages all aspects of audits, taxation, accounting, insurance, and bonding for the organizations

Assists with cash management of business and cash flow forecasting

Analyzes, consolidates, and directs all job cost accounting practices, ensuring that leadership / project management team has full understanding

Assists with managing WIP and WIP analysis

Assists in building an annual budget and comparing to actuals

Coordinates and ensures smooth process between estimates and billing

Coordinates with leadership team and operating groups in developing appropriate policies and procedures to achieve efficient and accurate recording of accounting data inclusive of month-end procedures and journal adjustments

Achieves mastery in Foundation and Quick Books Enterprise (accounting systems) to be able to supervise, assist and perform, when necessary, all aspects of the accounting department

What You'll Need :

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance. CPA preferred

Previous experience in job costing, construction preferred

At least 3 years’ experience as assistant controller or controller

Excellent analytical skills with strong attention to detail and ensuring accuracy

Excellent time management and prioritization skills

Strong leadership abilities with the ability to effectively manage a team

Friendly & positive personality for collaborating with internal and external teams

Experience in Foundation and QuickBooks Enterprise, Microsoft Excel (formulas, queries, pivot tables), Microsoft Word and Adobe
