What are the responsibilities and job description for the Field Data Collector (Massachusetts) position at Mathematica Policy Research?
Position Description :
Mathematica applies expertise at the intersection of data, methods, policy, and practice to improve well-being around the world. We collaborate closely with public-and private-sector partners to translate big questions into deep insights that improve programs, refine strategies, and enhance understanding using data science and analytics. Our work yields actionable information to guide decisions in wide-ranging policy areas, from health, education, early childhood, and family support to nutrition, employment, disability, and international development.
Mathematica is working with the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston (Boston Fed), The Boston Foundation (TBF), and TBF’s community partners in Massachusetts to field a state-wide survey. It is called the “Massachusetts Economic Conditions and Household Opportunity Survey” or “Mass ECHOS.” Through this survey, the Boston Fed seeks to learn more about economic conditions among households across Massachusetts. Several national studies look at household finances across the country, but our goal is to focus on this topic within our state. Data collected from the survey will be used to inform strategies that can support greater economic opportunity.
The survey will include over 30,000 addresses selected from across the state. Residents at these addresses will be invited to complete either a web-based or hardcopy survey questionnaire. To help improve response to the survey overall, field data collectors will conduct in-person follow up to selected addresses that have not yet completed the survey.
Responsibilities Include :
- Managing assigned cases and documenting all follow up efforts.
- Traveling frequently to visit households located at the address for each assigned case.
- Answering questions, addressing concerns, and promoting completion of the survey.
- When an adult household member agrees to take part, field data collectors will provide them with a tablet device to complete the 20-minute, web-based survey. Once completed, they will provide a $50 gift card to the person who completed the survey.
In-person field locating will take place over 10 weeks in 2025. The first round of follow up will run for 5 weeks in May and June and is expected to resume for another 5 weeks in September and October. We seek field data collectors with availability for both rounds of follow up efforts.
