Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Safety Director to lead our safety initiatives and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations at multi-state locations. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing safety programs that promote a culture of safety within the organization. This role is critical in minimizing workplace hazards and ensuring the well-being of all employees.
Duties
- Audits all facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards and recommends corrective or preventive measures where indicated.
- Consults with all departments on the use of equipment/machinery, fire prevention and the dealership safety program, and ensures that employees utilize proper safety equipment.
- Formulates general safety policies and procedures to be followed by the dealership in compliance with local, state and federal OSHA rules and regulations including environmental compliance.
- Implements safety programs and conducts training in compliance with local, state and federal OSHA rules and regulations, including but not limited to, forklift certification, fire and emergency response, hazardous materials etc.
- Manages and leads first responders’ program at all facilities.
- Maintains the dealership hazard communication program.
- Devises, supervises and coordinates training programs or media that will promote safety consciousness; teaches safe practices and ensures that they are followed.
- Participates in the investigation of accidents and injuries and cooperates in the preparation of material and evidence for dealership use in hearings, lawsuits and insurance investigations.
- Compiles and submits accident reports required by regulatory agencies.
- Oversees the administration of the workers' compensation program, including working with the insurance carrier to cut down on lost employee time and cut back on unjust claims.
- Studies and analyzes causes of dealership accidents and health hazards and prepares reports for use by dealership personnel and outside agencies.
- Represents the organization in community or industry safety groups and programs.
- Maintains safety files and records.
- Prepares and arranges safety exhibits and material for display, promotional work, industry conferences, and exhibitions.
- Participates in continuous improvement events
- Active member of the Elite Support Team
Education and Requirements
- Four-year degree with an emphasis on Occupational Safety Management
- 2 – 4 years Safety Management in a mechanical repair shop, manufacturing or industrial setting required.
- Ability to travel to all facilities located in WV, VA, FL, MD, DE, KY, OH and KS required.
- Knowledge of OSHA Reporting Requirements
- Certification in First Aid and CPR is preferred.
- Familiarity with root cause analysis techniques for incident investigation.
- Ability to fabricate solutions for unique safety challenges as they arise.
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with all levels of the organization.
