Will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing the development of MathWorks’ sophisticated software products; managing a team of 4-8 highly technical Software Engineers; guiding and coaching around the development of the MATLAB I/O capabilities for image and scientific data formats; providing day-to-day mentorship and coaching for Software Engineers on how to work effectively and efficiently with their project teams; and coaching direct reports, including project planning, project execution, process improvements, setting goals and objectives, writing reviews and holding regular one-on-one meetings.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and five (5) years of experience as a Software Engineering Manager (or related occupation) developing code to import and export files in audio, video, image, and scientific data domain.
OR
Ph.D. degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and three (3) years of experience as a Software Engineering Manager (or related occupation) developing code to import and export files in audio, video, image, and scientific data domain.
OR
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and eight (8) years of experience as a Software Engineering Manager (or related occupation) developing code to import and export files in audio, video, image, and scientific data domain.
Special Requirements:
Demonstrated expertise developing code to import and export audio, video, image, and scientific file formats including MPEG, AVI, WAV, FLAC, JPEG, TIFF, HDF5, and netCDF; and using remote cloud-based access mechanisms - AWS S3, OPeNDAP, and HTTP- - to read and update both complete and partial scientific data files.
- Demonstrated expertise developing code using C/C third party libraries, MEX files, and multi-threaded programming; and in object-oriented programming in C/C and MATLAB according to Design Patterns and Agile methodologies.
- Demonstrated expertise acting as technical lead on software development projects for scaling big data environments, according to Agile Scrum and data driven software development methodologies; performing program analysis, identifying and managing risks and mitigation strategies for quality issues; performing effort estimation, and defining and implementing knowledge management tools and strategies; and creating, analyzing and publishing quality metrics and measures across teams to communicate release quality, and delivering status updates to senior management. Demonstrated expertise applying Lean concepts to manage software development projects including implementing process improvement initiatives - identifying scope for process improvement and identifying deltas
