Job Title: Corporate Payroll Accountant

Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Corporate Payroll Accountant to join our team on a temporary basis due to an employee’s maternity leave. This role involves performing monthly and quarterly journal entries, account reconciliations, and detailed analysis for U.S. and Canadian payroll companies. You will play a key role in ensuring accurate payroll and benefits accounting while collaborating with the payroll department and regional accountants. This is a dynamic position with various responsibilities, where the successful candidate will be trained by the current payroll accountant for 2 months prior to their maternity leave.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform monthly and quarterly journal entries and account reconciliations for U.S. and Canadian payroll and benefits.
- Analyze payroll-related accruals, allocations, and ensure accurate recording of benefit costs.
- Respond to inquiries from regional accountants and assist in budget-to-actual analysis, working closely with the payroll department.
- Assist in quarterly payroll and benefits reviews, including bonus, vacation, equity compensation, medical, and 401(k).
- Collaborate with the payroll team to ensure month-end payroll accruals are properly processed and aligned with GL clearing accounts for both U.S. and Canadian payroll companies.
- Ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) controls and internal audit requirements.
- Work in a hybrid environment, with 3 days per week in the office.
Qualifications:
- 2-4 years of experience in general accounting and payroll-related functions.
- Strong background in payroll accounting, including payroll benefits, medical invoices, and related matters.
- Experience working in a corporate accounting environment (no cost accounting or manufacturing backgrounds).
- Proficient in reconciliations, journal entries, and payroll processing (especially in-house payroll).
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Hands-on experience with SAP is required; familiarity with HFM templates is a plus.
- Knowledge of U.S. and Canadian payroll accounting and GAAP.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent analytical skills.
