Description:
Enterprise Output Solutions – Architecture & Engineering Overview Role Requirements
Our clients Output Solutions team is responsible for three primary domains: print, plastic, and digital communications. As the largest USPS mailer in the U.S., they send out 3.5 billion envelopes annually, personalize over 330 million credit cards, and store over 230 million eBills each year. This domain is supported by over 150 applications and is now undergoing a significant modernization initiative.
The team is focused on modernizing the application stack to be more domain-aligned, microservices-driven, self-service enabled, and future-ready. A major part of this effort involves consolidating their document composition engines from 13 down to just two, with OpenText and Quadient being the new standards. Many of their legacy applications are currently on .NET but will be moving to Java as part of the modernization. There's also a broader initiative to shift from a file-based system to an event-driven architecture, with Kafka serving as the messaging backbone. Key technologies in use include React, Java, Kubernetes, Voltage for data encryption, as well as single sign-on and multi-factor authentication. Experience in designing event-driven systems, creating microservices architectures, and a strong understanding of security (especially when dealing with financial data) is considered a strong asset. Additionally, experience with analyzing system requirements both from a functional and non-functional perspective is crucial.
On a day-to-day basis, the enterprise architect will lead the functional decomposition of existing applications, mapping out current state and defining the future state architecture. The role involves creating secure and scalable solution designs, especially with regards to event-driven and microservices architectures, and providing architectural guidance across a broad set of applications. This is an enterprise-level architecture role that looks at the overall system landscape more "forest view" than "tree view" and is not focused on infrastructure or cloud operations specifically. The architect will help define guardrails and standards to ensure development teams stay aligned with the overall strategy. Some projects will be large and strategic, while others may be smaller and quicker to complete. The role requires regular collaboration with senior leaders including VPs, SVPs, and other architects, so strong communication skills are essential. The team supports Fiserv’s core banking print and mailing services, which are critical to the business. While legacy technologies like RPG and VB6 still exist, they are being actively phased out.
The interview process consists of two rounds: an initial technical interview followed by a final team fit interview with the hiring manager. A bachelor’s degree is required. This position is based in Omaha and is only available to candidates who can work onsite. Video interviews are acceptable during the hiring process.
