Maintenance Technician

Matrix designs, manufactures, and sells innovative technological products that help keep people safe. Originally focused on the underground coal mining industry, Matrix has expanded into new industrial markets in the United States and globally.

We are currently seeking a skilled and reliable Maintenance Technician to oversee and perform all maintenance tasks across our campus. This hands-on role includes routine repairs, preventative maintenance, and managing our vendor relationships for specialized services. The ideal candidate is a problem solver who takes pride in keeping facilities safe, functional, and well-maintained. This position works in a team environment at our home office in Newburgh, IN. This is not a remote position.

This position reports to the Vice President of Operations.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop routine and preventative maintenance schedules.
• Perform routine maintenance and repairs, including painting, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and general building upkeep.
• Conduct regular inspections of buildings and systems to identify and resolve issues proactively.
• Maintain records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections and accurately report conditions.
• Coordinate and oversee vendor services such as HVAC servicing, electrical, landscaping, security, janitorial, and specialized repairs.
• Manage work orders, prioritize tasks, and ensure timely completion of maintenance requests.
• Assist in preparing and managing the facilities budget.
• Track expenses and identify cost-saving opportunities.
• Assist the Safety Manager to ensure compliance with safety standards and building codes.
• Perform inspections of safety equipment as required to include fire extinguishers, emergency lighting and eyewash stations.
• Monitor and maintain inventory of tools, supplies, and equipment, and furniture.
• Track expenses and identify cost-saving opportunities.
• Assist in planning, coordinating space allocations and office layouts.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for facility-related issues and respond to emergency maintenance situations as needed.

Qualifications & Competencies

• Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Basic understanding of budgeting and financial principles.
• Proven experience in facility maintenance, building repair, or a related field.
• Strong knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and general repairs.
• Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues.
• Experience managing vendors and coordinating third-party services.
• Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and take initiative.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and functional environment.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Working Conditions

• May require working in various conditions, including outdoor areas, mechanical rooms, or elevated spaces.
• Occasional after-hours or weekend work may be required to address emergencies or complete projects.

Physical Requirements

The employee is required to stand, walk, stoop, climb ladders, and crouch. The employee may need to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and team lift up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
