Role summary:

The Laboratory Director will provide operational and technical leadership within the organization.  This includes participating in the development of long-term strategies to ensure growth and profitability of the business and taking ownership for the execution of the operational plans. The incumbent oversees and directs all operational activities of the laboratory ensure we keep the commitments made to our customers in a way that balances the needs of the customer, the employees, and the company.   

What you’ll do:

  • Develop operating plans for the oversight of the laboratory that drive the top and bottom-line performance, leverages synergies between the groups where appropriate and provide aspirational service and financial results. 
  • Direct and monitor laboratory, sample receipt and related operations in support of corporate objectives in areas such as client satisfaction, scientific integrity, quality improvement, business growth, profitability, employee competence and customer satisfaction. Execute corrective action plans to improve performance or address deficiencies.  
  • Act as stakeholder or project owner for planned strategic operational projects within the LOB.  Participate in relevant cross-LOB operational projects as required. 
  • Provide support and expertise for customers and define other business units, including acting as a client interface for inquiries and issue resolution when required. 
  • Provide technical, managerial, and administrative leadership and expertise to assigned personnel.  Responsibilities include providing direction, evaluating results, monitoring wages, evaluating performance, hiring, and developing employees.
  • Support metric-based evaluation of defined laboratories and drive adoption and reporting of KPIs to identify opportunities for operational improvements.   
  • Initiate and support organizational change as it relates to both process development and standardization of workflow processes, ensuring appropriate approval and system wide adoption are in place. Lead and manage change implementation through local leadership.  
  • Ensure complete compliance with the quality system in all aspects of the operation.  This includes ensuring that investigations of non-conformances, problems and customer complaints are documented and performed in a way that objectively identifies root causes and that corrective actions are effective and implemented in a traceable and sustainable way.  
  • This position has the responsibility and authority to initiate action to prevent or minimize departures from the quality system or operating procedures. Escalating issues such as client turn-around time requirements, overtime limits, employee turnover, work stoppage and assure the appropriate type and number of materials are ready and available for use.  
  • Develop and maintain a working climate that fosters corporate culture goals, encouraging inter and intra-division cooperation.   Promote the company’s image and culture in all interactions with employees, clients, professional organizations, vendors, industry personnel, and the public at large.

  

What you’ll have:

  • 10 years in 3rd party laboratories with a technical focus on the primary analyses performed within the lab.
  • BS/Advanced Degree, preferably in Chemistry or another related field.
  • Proven knowledge of laboratory operations.
  • Organizational agility and ability to execute multi-functional laboratory plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally across teams.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills to drive collaboration and staff development.
  • Critical thinking, including analytical skills as it relates to process.
  • An ability to effectively motivate teams, collaborate and drive technical excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Good understanding of MS Office Suite 
  • Organizational, planning, and analytical skills.
  • Practical problem-solving skills.
