Position Summary:
The Career Placement Specialist evaluates veterans participating in our programs and aids in their transition to fulfilling employment. This role involves gathering information from program participants through interviews and assessments to understand their needs, skills, and employment barriers. The specialist also collects information about potential employers and job opportunities through networking, with a focus on creating matches that support our veterans' unique circumstances and career goals. This position is integral to our mission at Veterans Stand Together, as it supports our veterans in accessing vocational training, housing, and other supportive services necessary for overcoming employment barriers and achieving a satisfying life post-service.
Job Duties:
- Complies with applicable federal and state laws and regulations, company standards, and institutional policies and procedures, including but not limited to those related to student job placement.
- Screens each participant by interview and completing VST intake along with reviewing documents provided and documents required.
- Prepare candidates for job readiness through relationship-building, resume refinement, and interview coaching.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify vocational interests, barriers, and skills, providing tailored support such as transportation assistance.
- Actively seek employment opportunities aligned with candidates' preferences, managing personalized job searches and documenting interactions.
- Advocate for living wage opportunities for candidates in low-paying roles.
- Track employed candidates' progress and conduct satisfaction assessments.
- Ensure thorough documentation and proper tracking of activities, maintaining detailed records of interactions and progress for each candidate.
- Offer insights on the job market, propose improvement strategies, and fulfill assigned duties as necessary.
- Identifies developing and securing relationships with employers to hire students/graduates of VST programs through externship to hire and direct hire job order opportunities.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Experience working in social services business administration, vocational rehabilitation, labor relations, social work, human services, or related field and/or (Preferred).
- Reliable transportation for local travel, and valid driver’s license required.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to communicate with adults with disabilities required.
- Ability to teach and coach in a positive manner.
- Ability to pass a background check.
- Background in employment, staffing, or business development preferred.

- This position requires frequently standing; walking; hand dexterity; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop; kneel; crouch; or crawl; and talk; or hear.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 10 pounds.
