About The Role

The Principal Software Engineer position is responsible for project development, delivery, and the maintenance of existing horizontal applications under in the IT Architecture group of Matson. This individual has to provide support for horizontal applications on AWS cloud, On-premise and SaaS to ensure smooth and timely delivery of new projects in collaboration with developers, managers, and architects. In addition, this individual has to provide technical solutions to business requirements and make enhancements. Must work well in a team environment and with multiple departments within Matson.

What You’ll Do

• Provide technical expertise to design, develop, implement, and support group of horizontal applications under the IT Architecture group.
• Demonstrate strong programming skills in Java, Web Services, Spring Framework and SQL/NoSQL.
• Work on AWS Cloud technologies.
• Analyze and understand business problems/requirements and provide technical solutions.
• Translate customer requirements into technical documents and provide direction to development team.
• Effectively configure and implement new features in third party vendor applications.
• Quickly adopt to industry trends and developments and apply that knowledge to improve our services to customers and carriers.
• Coordinate with multiple technical teams on project deliverables and timelines.
• Enforce coding standards, best practices, and consistently deliver high quality product.
• Write efficient and testable code, build reusable components, and create code documentation.
• Troubleshooting and debugging for an optimal performance.
• Develop an understanding of the customer’s business, build relationships, and identify opportunities for growth in all Matson services that are available.
  
  

You Have These Skills

• Strong coding skills in Java, Spring Framework, Messaging, Web services and SQL/NoSQL Databases.
• Strong problem solving, analyzing, and debugging skills.
• Hands on working knowledge of developing applications on AWS Cloud. Knowledge of AWS serverless stack is a strong plus.
• Strong knowledge in CD/CI pipeline and deployments in AWS cloud.
• Strong knowledge in application/web servers, Tomcat/Apache/JBoss.
• Good knowledge in web tools, browsers, and info-sec concepts.
• Experience in Content Management systems is a plus.
• Knowledge of systems integrations and networking is a plus.

And These Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
• About 15 years of software and project development experience using JAVA, web technologies, Spring Framework, Web Services, JSON, Swagger, XML, Hibernate, HTML, CSS, React.
• Proven ability to use best practices by developing reusable code component, driving coding standards, performing code reviews, and providing key process improvement recommendations.
• Strong understanding of version control tools.
• Strong database and SQL programming experience – Oracle, MySQL experience a plus.
• Linux/Unix experience, open source Java stack and Tomcat/Apache/JBoss Servers.
• Experience implementing cloud-based solutions in AWS a must.
• Strong understanding of application security and build applications with sound Information Security/ Cyber Security principles.
• Good communication skills.
