About The Role
The Superintendent – Neighbor Island Operations position coordinates the movement of all westbound cargo destined for the Neighbor Island ports that is transshipped at Honolulu in a cost effective and expeditious manner to provide a level of service in accordance with Company standards. Accurately documents such Neighbor Island cargo movements as directed by management. The incumbent must forecast every barge sailing and work closely with MTI accounting and Corporate to monitor NI costs. Also responsible for maintaining various statistical data relating to NI cargo volumes. Performs supervisory duties to coordinate workflow and to monitor the conduct, quality and quantity of work performed.

About The Role

Performs supervisory duties to coordinate workflow and to monitor the conduct, quality and quantity of work performed.
What You’ll Do
- Direct the transshipment of all westbound NI cargo, including CFS autos and conventional cargo to ensure proper and cost-effective connections are made.
- Works with Corporate Fleet Operations daily to publish a complete vessel schedule reflecting both long haul vessels and NI barges to ensure that accurate, up to date schedules are available. Communicates changes and update fleet schedule accordingly.
- Develop effective NI barge schedules by coordinating input from the NI managers and MTI operations departments to make recommendations to the General Manager Container Operations - Hawaii.
- Monitor implementation of the plan by MTI operations departments and Container Operations staff to ensure that service objectives are met.
- Maintain NI volume statistics (eastbound and westbound) to forecast future volumes based on historical patterns. Perform trend analysis to identify changes from historical patterns.
- Use historical volumes and future demand data to forecast volumes for mid-month estimates. Provide these estimates to the NI managers and to MTI accounting for the mid-month estimate meeting.
- Assigned for rotating week end duty with responsibility to monitor departmental operating plan, make decisions within the scope of the plan and notify the manager, container operations of any instances requiring input. Must communicate to Corporate duty person and MTI operations. Keeps MTI vice president informed of any major revisions in the plan.
- Coordinate the movement of eastbound freight and autos from the Neighbor Islands. Work with PHX customer service to ensure booking to the correct barge/ long haul combination. Monitor MTI operations to ensure connections are made.
- Track equipment levels throughout Hawaii. Update and distribute the consist report each morning.
- Track and report on other company metrics designated by the General Manager Container Operations - Hawaii.
- Manage empty inventory levels on the neighbor island to optimum levels.

- 5-7 years experience in shipping, marine, transportation, logistics or related industry.
- Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a TWIC card.
- College degree preferred, or equivalent experience acceptable.
- Previous supervisory experience.
- Ability to travel to Neighbor Islands and Mainland.
- Sitting up to 50 minutes per hour
- Walking up to 30 minutes per hour
- Standing up to 30 minutes per hour
- Lifting up to 30 lbs.
- May require travel to Neighbor Islands and Mainland.
