What are the responsibilities and job description for the Legal Assistant/Paralegal position at Matt C. Pinsker, Attorney at Law?
Are you interested in criminal law? If so, this may be the right temporary position for you. I am a criminal defense attorney and the person I depend on most is my paralegal who has been with me for a couple of years. She's the one who really runs my law office, and in August of 2025, she will be going on maternity leave, so I am looking for someone to fill-in for about 3 months until she returns. This would be mostly 2-4 weeks of training plus an additional couple of months until she returns.
Legal Assistant Duties:
-Filling out templates on letters and motions to send to clients and courts for retainer agreements, motions for discovery, notices of appearance, and emailing clients their case outcomes.
-maintaining an up-to-date firm calendar
-Maintaining files, both physical and digital
-Processing payments, sending receipts, and updating booking
-calling court clerks and prosecutors to get available dates in setting cases
-printing, faxing, scanning, etc.
The paralegal doubles as the receptionist at the front desk for our business and other tenants in the building. Responsibilities include greeting clients and guests, signing for packages, answering the phones when lawyers are in court, and other front-desk tasks. A professional janitorial service cleans the office, but there will also be some light cleaning duties throughout the week such as refilling the paper towels and taking out the trash.
This is a normal 8am to 5pm job with 1 hour off for lunch. We really like to hire people with experience in customer service, especially if they've waited tables and worked in restaurants, so be sure to include that in your resume, even if it was back in high school. You must be detail oriented and to prove this, somewhere in your application you should write the word “hamburger.” If you are a recent graduate or soon-to-be, you should also submit an unofficial transcript.
