Alcohol and Drug Counselor

Position Summary:

The Alcohol and Drug Counselor will offer homeless and near-homeless individuals Counseling, Case Management, Alcohol Education, Referral, and Evaluation through the C.A.R.E. Transitional Housing Program.

Essential Job Functions

• Begin each workday at the Matt Talbot’s Women’s Transitional House at 8 a.m.
• Provide substance use evaluations to homeless and near-homeless individuals.
• Carry a client caseload to be determined by the Substance Use Program Coordinator to assist in treatment planning and provide intensive counseling and case management services for persons in the C.A.R.E. program who are living in the Sober Living Transitions House.
• Demonstrate a knowledge and practical application of the 12 core functions and global criteria.
• Update and maintain resource information on services available for homeless or near homeless individuals and families.
• Facilitate the quarterly Drug and Alcohol Education Classes.
• Maintain professional boundaries in the provisions of services.
• Adhere to federal confidentiality and HIPPA guidelines.
• Maintain accurate records, statistics, and documentation.
• Participate in weekly supervision with the Substance Use Program Coordinator.
• Continue to seek consultation and continuing education as needed for professional development.
• Participate in weekly clinical staff meetings and monthly all-staff meetings.
• Provide primary support to deter guests from using substances prior to coming to MTKO or bringing substances into the facility or on the grounds.
• Offer more support and treatment options for those who violate this policy.
• Demonstrate a generally positive attitude towards clients, staff, and agency.
• Provide general outreach services to clients, as needed.
• As a member of a team, participate in educational programs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Adhere to all policies and procedures of MTKO.

Skills and Education

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or related field, required.
• Minimum of one year of experience working with homeless or near homeless individuals and be knowledgeable of street culture and an awareness of community resources.
• Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) or Provisionally Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (PLADC) through the state of Nebraska.
• Registered Service Provider with the Office of Probation Administration.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Genuine interest in and concern for all homeless and near homeless individuals and the ability to advocate for this population with other professionals in the community.
• Valid driver’s license and proof of insurance or state identification.

Working Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to indoor conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Pay: $18.00 - $19.00 per hour

• Monday to Friday
• Weekends as needed
