POSITION SUMMARY
The Associate Scientist participates in conducting internal R&D and contract studies. Working under the direction of the Scientist/Study Director, independently performs all duties associated with Associate Scientist as well as added responsibility/expectations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Organize and prepare consumables and labels and prepare and dilute test articles for R&D experiments and contract studies
- Follow experiment/study protocols to perform tissue dosing, rinsing, collection, and other tasks
- Use mammalian cell culture and aseptic technique when performing experiments
- Perform core assays associated with MatTek tissue models (MTT, LDH, TEER, etc.)
- Perform molecular biology endpoint assay such as DNA/RNA isolation/quantification, qPCR, Immunohistochemistry, Fluorescent Microscopy, and ELISA/Multiplex cytokine analysis.
- Assist and collaborate with Study Directors on data analysis and report writing tasks
- Maintain concise and neat records according to established SOPs
- Prepare buffers and simple daily supplements
- Clean and maintain equipment according to the designated schedule
- Maintain a clean and orderly lab space
- Additional tasks assigned by Senior Scientist/Study Director as needed
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job the employee will regularly work at a computer workstation and access information from a computer. The individual will often spend time on foot, standing and walking around facilities. The individual will be required to lift, carry, or move equipment of varying weight. Certain tasks will require bending, stooping, or kneeling. The employee will occasionally move up to 50 pounds.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Education / Work Experience
- Master’s degree in Biology or equivalent, or Bachelor’s Degree in Biology or equivalent and 2 years of hands-on experience
- Required Skills
- Strong knowledge and experience in mammalian cell culture and aseptic technique required.
- Familiarity with molecular biology techniques (DNA/RNA isolation/quantification, qPCR, Immunohistochemistry, Fluorescent Microscopy, ELISA/Multiplex cytokine analysis, Western Blot, etc.) desired, but specific training will be provided if needed.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a contract research team.
- Ability to multitask and effectively manage time.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Competent in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $70,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
