Description
The Logistics Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the company’s transportation operations. This role involves planning, coordinating, and monitoring logistics processes to ensure the efficient and cost-effective receipt and delivery of goods. Key functions include the planning, development, and administration of the company’s logistics programs, encompassing all aspects of domestic transportation and the importing/exporting of materials.
The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with suppliers, customers, and other stakeholders. This individual will serve as a leader in facilitating and initiating material transportation activities and processes aligned with the company’s strategic goals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee the transportation of goods to and from vendors and customers, ensuring timely delivery and the correct quantities to support facility operations.
- Manage logistics for small package service, truckload (TL), less-than-truckload (LTL), air freight, and ocean freight to optimize shipping processes.
- Manage relationships with suppliers, vendors and transportation companies – responsible for the successful negotiation of carrier contracts.
- Design and implement import strategies to optimize supply chain efficiency – align business strategy through carrier contracts.
- Analyze logistics data including rates, routes and performance metrics to identify areas for improvement and cost savings.
- Act as an escalation point for the returns team on filing and managing claims related to loss, damage, and shortage with carriers.
- Responsible for developing and maintaining appropriate metrics, both short-term and long-term, related to punctuality, transportation costs, quality, health and safety standards, etc.
- Collaborate and implement action plans to achieve or improve processes to meet organizational standards for inbound and outbound shipments.
- Establishes logistics policies, routing instructions, procedures - coordinate with various departments to ensure alignment of logistics operations with set business policies and objectives.
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations and safety standards.
- Perform ad hoc tasks as requested.
Qualifications
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS:
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the fields of transportation, importing, traffic, and procurement
- Demonstrate communication, negotiation, and cost-control skills
- Familiar with Flooring industry and use of roll carriers a plus
- Experience managing the import process
- Knowledge of Customs regulations
- Attention to detail
- Organizational and problem-solving skills
- Has the ability to manage multiple priorities and is comfortable working under pressure while meeting deadlines.
- Proficient in the MS Office suite and knowledge of NetSuite and Pacejet a plus.
- Available and accountable for emergencies.
- Ability to work in a team.
