The Mattie Rhodes Center provides a holistic approach to individual and family well-being through social services, mental health counseling and the arts. Our staff provides culturally competent programming in the following four areas:

  • Family Services (behavioral health, family violence, substance abuse)
  • Youth Services (in-school intervention, youth development, supportive living)
  • Community Support (health and wellness, community engagement)
  • Cultural Arts (arts education, exhibits and collections)

Mattie Rhodes is the only fully bilingual/bi-cultural state-certified behavioral health care provider in the Greater Kansas City region, and is state-certified in intensive outpatient substance abuse therapy.

Mattie Rhodes is nationally accredited by the Council on Accreditation (COA) and is celebrating its 124th year of serving the community.

Job Summary:

The Grants Coordinator is responsible for organizing, writing and researching grant proposals to support the fundraising goals of Mattie Rhodes Center (MRC). Additionally, this position is responsible for all aspects of grant management, including identifying, cultivating & soliciting funding prospects, responding to requests for proposals from corporate, government and private sources, and submitting all corresponding grant reports. In addition, this position provides analysis and post-award oversight to ensure compliance with grant-specific requirements. The incumbent also supports the Development Team through the creation of various promotional materials. This position is a non-exempt position and maintains flexibility in work schedule.

Responsibilities:

GRANT WRITING

  • Write grant proposals and reports as assigned by the CEO and Director of Development and Communication
  • Research grant-making organizations and analyze them for applicability to MRC projects and programs.
  • Work with appropriate staff to ensure grant requests and reports reflect MRC program initiatives.
  • Ensure that grants and donor reports are completed and submitted to grant/report specifications.
  • Provide a schedule of internal deadlines for those involved with providing content and reviewing the proposal drafts; incorporate a reasonable amount of time for the team to participate in the grant planning meeting, content contribution and draft reviews.
  • Compile, write and edit all grant applications while exhibiting strong, persuasive expository writing skills evidencing a high-level command of grammar and spelling.
  • Write proposals that position the agency, its programs and leadership as eligible recipients; fully explain projects through the use of storytelling; answer all questions posed in the RFP; develop individually tailored proposals in accordance with each grant-making organization’s preferences and follow exactly each grant-making organization’s guidelines.

GRANT-RELATED ADMINISTRATIVE FUNCTIONS

  • Update development calendar and grant log, as they pertain to assigned grants and reports (this includes grant/report deadlines and status).
  • Work with Development Team to ensure appropriate tracking, acknowledgement and recognition of funders.
  • Maintain donor database as it pertains to assigned grants and reports.
  • Assist in preparations for external monitoring visits, reviews, and audits by donors.
  • Keep in contact with grant-making organizations during the review of a submitted grant application in order to be able to supply additional supportive material if needed.

MESSAGING AND COMMUNICATION

  • Maintain positive, active contact and relationships with MRC program directors & senior management.
  • Create messages and write empowering stories for: press releases, website updates, and other marketing materials as needed.
  • Work to improve knowledge and skills through professional development opportunities.
  • Provide special event support as schedule allows.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in communications, journalism, public administration, or related field
  • Excellent MS Office skills--Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint
  • Minimum of 3 years’ successful nonprofit grant writing and/or proposal writing experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organization and interpersonal skills with special attention to detail
  • Excellent planning, research, conceptual and strategic thinking skills
  • Flexibility and the ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and projects
  • An understanding of program evaluation and outcomes
  • An in-depth understanding of Hispanic culture, including an appreciation of its strengths
  • Budget preparation experience
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and productive working relationships within a diverse and multicultural environment
  • Commitment to cultural competency in providing of services and organizational development

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a family service agency working with diverse urban populations
  • Knowledge of issues related to mental health, children, families, disabilities and/or substance abuse programming.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $43,000.00 - $46,000.00 per year
