Maui Family YMCA Job Title: After-School Counselor
Reports to: Site Coordinator; Youth Director
Salary Range: $15.00 - $18.00
Part Time: 10-15 hours a week
POSITION SUMMARY
Provides active supervision for children in a group setting at an after-school program. Offers a high-quality experience for children and parents relevant to the YMCA’s core values: Honesty, Caring, Respect, and Responsibility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Providing quality and active supervision to children
2. Participating in planning and implementing program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate, and consistent with YMCA values
3. Adhering to program safety and cleanliness
4. Attending all staff meetings and trainings
5. Following YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies
6. Maintaining positive relationships with youth, parents, staff, and school personnel
7. Helping with student’s homework during A hours
8. Understanding and agreeing with the YMCA philosophy, goals, and objectives
9. Ensuring the safety, health, and wellbeing of all YMCA youth
10. Relating to the children with respect and understanding
11. Demonstrating knowledge of young adults’ development and adjusting approaches based on individual or group needs
12. Promoting positive development in youth
13. Maintaining a team spirit
14. Instructing children in a variety of activities with enthusiasm and creativity
15. Attending work and work-related promptly.
16. Remaining open-minded towards criticism, suggestion, and direction from other staff
17. Preparing and submitting lesson plans on time as requested by the director
18. Researching and developing new and creative activities to enhance the program
19. Maintaining responsibility for the facility, equipment, and supplies of the A site
20. Completing other duties as assigned
21. Updating youth and families about YMCA events
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Certifications: Child and Adult CPR/AED, Basic First Aid
2. Provide a negative tuberculosis (TB) test
3. At least 15 ½ years of age
4. Graduated, GED, or currently attending high school
5. Must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 and provide a copy of the vaccination card before employment
6 . Must be fingerprinted and in compliance with the Department of Education guidelines
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to lift equipment and participate in a range of activities in various outdoor/indoor settings
Ability to frequently sit, crouch, kneel, walk, and run
