Job Description
Maui Urology, LLC is a busy Urology Practice in a beautiful office with a wonderful and cohesive team. We are looking for a hardworking, experienced MA or LPN to join our team. Urology is a vital field of Medicine for Maui and this is a rare opportunity to participate in curing pain, eradicating cancers, and otherwise helping the members of our community return to the people and activities they love. Experience in urology is preferred, but a great attitude and willingness to learn skills that many nurses wish they had is all that is required. Dr Carlsen and Nurse Charlene love to teach.
The Medical Assistant or LPN are responsible for assisting the providers or nurse with all aspects of patient care. The job will consist, on average, with three days of clinic work and two days of administrative work. Work hours will average 8:00 to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. You will report directly to the Provider and Physician Assistant while taking direction from the lead nurse.
- Obtains, identifies and records vital signs, prevention data, medications, chief complaints and other pertinent information; observes, records and reports pertinent patient symptoms, reactions, condition changes, and information, utilizing our electronic medical record; immediately identifies and reports to RN or practitioner all adverse observations, reactions, conditions, or emergency situations
- Transcribes patient-specific data into electronic system using practitioner generated ICD-10 and CPT codes for purposes of billing, coding, and clinical data reporting and analysis
- Prepares room and instruments for use during exam or procedure; assists practitioner or RN with wide variety of patient care procedures and tests; collects, labels, and processes specimens as required by practitioner and in accordance with policies and procedures; performs point-of-care laboratory tests as authorized by policy and delegated by nursing supervisor
- Maintains and promotes clean, safe, and well-equipped environment for patients, family members, and staff; follows departmental and organizational directives to isolate and process contaminated instruments and supplies; cleans rooms, furniture, instruments, and equipment according to established polices and procedures
- Gives injections, administers oral medications, and performs limited treatments as indicated by, and under the supervision of the provider.
- Place catheters for required patients.
- Assists in preparing information for patient appointments; such as labs, hospital reports, referrals, authorizations and notes. Able to complete office forms and documents.
- Assist in the maintenance of patient data in the electronic medical record (EMR). Scans documents as required, with accurate labeling and allocation.
- Keeps all treatment areas and nurse’s stations neat and clean at all times; orders all medical and clerical supplies and keeps the office stocked within designated par levels; cleans and prepares instruments for sterilization as necessary.
- Answers incoming phone calls and transfers the calls as needed. Takes prescription (RX) messages, identifies and verifies information needed to schedule appointment requests. Assist with follow appointments or referrals.
- Fills in for other staff members as needed. Cross-trains in various daily tasks of the practice.
- Works to ensure our patients and family members have a positive experience. Takes initiative in problem-solving, maintains confidentiality of patient and company information, and interacts with patients, co-workers, and management in a courteous and respectful manner.
- All other miscellaneous responsibilities and duties as assigned.
- Demonstrates quality work, completes assignments on a timely basis, and makes decisions within limits of authority. Adheres to all company policies and procedures.
- Maintains time and attendance standards consistent with company policy.
Qualifications and Experience
Education/Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Graduation from a Medical Assistant or LPN course required. CPR/BLS Card required
One year of experience required, two years of experience preferred
Skills/Knowledge:
Must be able to manage multiple tasks at the same time
Possesses strong telephone skills
Possess good interpersonal skills.
Experience in Urologic care preferred but not required
Desired/Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrates effective communication and telephone skills; computer literacy preferred.
- Equipment use: Personal computer, multi-line telephone, fax machine/copier, Medical equipment (i.e. BP cuff, pulse oximetry, bladder scanner, urodynamics machine, etc)
- Experience with an EMR required, experience with eClinicalWorks (eCW) a plus
