Position Overview:
Mauldin & Jenkins is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented, and highly motivated Governmental Accounting Comptroller to join our CAAS Department. This individual will play a critical role in managing multiple teams and working with multiple clients to assist and advise on the monthly governmental accounting functions, ensuring compliance with Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) pronouncements, and overseeing financial reporting for governmental entities.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in GASB accounting standards, along with demonstrated experience in governmental financial reporting, budgeting, and people management. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic environment and contribute to the financial health and accountability of governmental organizations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and oversee governmental accounting operations, including general ledger maintenance, journal entries, accounts payable/receivable, and reconciliations.
- Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with GASB standards, including the Annual Financial Report (AFR).
- Ensure compliance with relevant accounting principles, regulations, and best practices, with a focus on GASB pronouncements.
- Supervise, mentor, and provide leadership to accounting staff, ensuring optimal performance and professional development.
- Evaluate and implement internal controls to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data.
- Stay current on changes in GASB standards and provide guidance to staff and leadership on their implications for financial reporting and operations.
- Collaborate with other departments and management to provide financial insights and support decision-making.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in governmental accounting, with a strong emphasis on GASB accounting principles and standards.
- In-depth knowledge of GASB pronouncements, governmental accounting practices, and financial reporting.
- Proficiency in financial software and accounting systems, with advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong understanding of internal controls, budgeting, and auditing processes.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively work with staff, auditors, and management.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
