Mauldin & Jenkins, LLC (“M&J”) is a Top 100 CPA firm providing audit, tax, and advisory services primarily in the southeast and throughout the country. M&J is seeking a Manager for our Governmental Advisory Practice. Writing sample/business case evaluation will be required. The Government Advisory Practice is the Firm’s fastest growing practice providing advisory services to state and local governments predominantly in the southeast and throughout the country. Governments today face pressures unlike any other industry – competing politics, variable revenues, aging systems, regulatory and compliance mandates, diverse stakeholder management – all while being responsible for providing safe, effective, and efficient services to citizens and users. The Government Advisory Practice helps clients’ visions become reality through assessment, compliance, strategy, and transformation services.
Job Responsibilities
CLIENT SERVICE EXCELLENCE
- Manages and delivers complex state and local government engagements that help to solve client problems
- Approaches client interactions with professionalism and with a sense of wanting to help the client succeed
- Develops client relationships and maintains client contact with appropriate individuals beyond the engagement throughout the year
- Confidently presents in front of office personnel, clients, industry or trade associations, etc.
- Responsible for seeing that engagements are complete and ready for Senior Manager or Partner review within established time frame and budget for engagements in accordance with M&J’s quality control policies
- Effectively supports/manages multiple engagement simultaneously
- Demonstrates knowledge of, and is able to have conversations around the client’s business and operations; including competitors, trends, key customers and a big picture view of the client’s current operating strategy
- Acts as a change agent; sets example by accepting change and proactively supporting change (e.g. change in advisory tools, different advisory approach at client, etc.)
PEOPLE MANAGEMENT/RELATIONSHIPS
- Participates in activities to help grow M&J (e.g. recruiting, Firm training sessions, etc.)
- Develops Interns, Associates, and Senior Associates by delegating work and providing training/mentorship
- Provides constructive formal and informal feedback in a timely manner to all levels
- Maintains a positive attitude that is reflected in work and evident to others; motivates others
PRODUCTIVITY & BUSINESS GROWTH
- Meets chargeable budget and realization goals
- Identifies out of scope work and other potential issues that would negatively affect engagement metrics and takes appropriate and timely action
- Articulates the depth and breadth of Firm service offerings to clients and identifies potential “add-on” services
- Proactively identifies new business opportunities
- Leads preparing engagement proposals
Qualifications
EXPERTISE
- Able to research complex topics and form a conclusion to be reviewed by appropriate team member (Senior Manager, Director, Partner)
- Understands and applies M&J’s quality standards for self, team, and client; models integrity
- Supports/manages engagements in accordance with M&J’s quality control policies; knows objectives, approaches, and best practices
- Consistently delivers high quality work products and possesses attention to detail
- Prepares complex reports and other client deliverables
- Works independently under general supervision to complete and properly document assigned engagement steps; makes recommendations within scope of responsibilities
- Maintains an understanding of the complete engagement cycle from sales to deliverables, and executes appropriate methodologies and procedures
- Uses problem solving, analytical skills, and critical thought to assess information and develop potential solutions
- Demonstrated experience with project management, business analysis, and operational transformations
- Knowledge of standard project management methodologies
- Demonstrates self-awareness of personal strengths and development areas
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Utilization of business writing skills
- Overnight travel will be necessary
- At times, weekend work will be required
Education and Experience:
- Minimum of five years of management consulting experience, preferably with a focus or experience with state and local government
- B.A./B.S. degree or equivalent from an accredited university with a major or concentration in business economics, finance, international affairs, public administration, or a similar focus; and possess an affinity for government
Qualifications
