What are the responsibilities and job description for the People-First Inventory Director (not your typical Used Car Manager) position at Maverick Car Company?
This is not your typical sales-focused Used Car Manager position.
As our Inventory Director, you’ll be leading and developing a high caliber team and driving the growth of an innovative approach to vehicle acquisition and inventory management. We’re looking for a hands-on leader who’s ready to step beyond traditional roles and strategies, to help take our team and business to the next level.
Speaking of the vehicles, we set the standard for used cars in Idaho, and now we’re looking to elevate and expand that even further, so we’re looking for the awesome ones (that aren’t often found at auctions), and a lot more of them.
We’re searching for the rare combination of an experienced automotive leader, with a passion for client experience and a people-first leadership approach. We know how things typically run in the industry, so if you’re looking for a change—where you get to build out your own division of the company, are supported in taking great care of customers, and even better care for your team—this might be the opportunity you’re looking for.
Who We Are
As 4x winners of Idaho's Best and Best of the Treasure Valley, Maverick is a car dealership that doesn’t act like one. Our customers feel the difference, rating us 4.9 out of 5 on Google in over 1,800 reviews! They love the experience they have and keep coming back and bringing their friends. As a result, we’ve continued growing since 2008. We first expanded in 2009, again in 2011, built an awesome new facility in 2017, and just expanded our service & recon operation. We love what we do and constantly hear feedback from our customers, like this:
“Without a doubt the most revolutionary dealership I’ve ever had the pleasure to deal with. I wanted to take the time to fully communicate how incredible these people really are.” — Google Review
And…
“AMAZING… How incredibly lucky we were to find the car of my dreams at a dealership that breaks all standards. The finest car dealer I have ever had the privilege to work with.” — Google Review
THE OPPORTUNITY
We just moved our reconditioning operation off-site, substantially increasing our capacity to move more volume without sacrificing quality. We also have more room on site for sales inventory - up to around 140 vehicles (and we still have 2.5 more acres to develop), so it’s time to ramp things up through innovative acquisition strategies, ensuring we secure more of the best vehicles available. Our previous Inventory Manager of 11 years is taking on a different role, and with these increased capacities, we're excited to grow this department even further.
Here’s a Few Of The Areas You Will Be Leading As Likely Parts Of Our Acquisition Strategy; The Right Person Will Bring Even More, And Ways To Elevate These Areas Further
We know it’s rare, but we’re looking for that people-first leader, with loads of industry experience—but who’s not stuck in the box. Someone who wants to get creative, drive growth, and most importantly, develop their people. We’re talking about a visionary leader who thrives on innovation and problem-solving. Someone with proven success in vehicle acquisition and management, but more importantly, someone who is passionate about developing others and driving team success. This isn’t just a position for a manager—it’s a chance to build and lead a team that sets the gold standard in the industry.

Here’s a Few Of The Areas You Will Be Leading As Likely Parts Of Our Acquisition Strategy; The Right Person Will Bring Even More, And Ways To Elevate These Areas Further
- Build out the best vehicle buying center (VBC) in the valley - known throughout Boise and beyond as the best place to go when you have a well cared for car to sell outright. We’re best in class for customer experience, but we haven’t applied this to inbound vehicle buying—yet. We’re confident we can win in this arena, and we’re looking for the experienced person that can lead the way.
- Increasing purchases from the service drive and trades - we just expanded our retail service capacity, so we’ll have more awesome vehicles rolling through, along with increasing sales volume. Time to help more of our clients know their options, and accurate values, for selling outright and/or upgrading.
- Growing our consignment program - we own vehicle consignment in Boise, with the best program and the best reputation. Time to get the word out to expand this further.
- Outbound private party buying - we have a unique approach and do this better than most. We just need to do more of it in Boise, and beyond, with remote buyers in other surrounding markets.
- Ensuring all remotely purchased vehicles are thoroughly evaluated upon arrival - (Did we get what we expected?)
- Ensuring the right things are repaired to uphold our standards, and the right upgrades are made (tint, wheels/tires, etc) to maximize the appeal and value
- Actively managing pricing, turn times, and wholesaling as needed
