Mawby is one of the pioneering wineries in Michigan, it was established in 1973 and began to focus on making sparkling wine exclusively in the mid-90's. We are looking for a new Production Assistant. The primary focus of the position would be using a machine to label wine and assist in the fulfilment of distributor and custom wine orders. The position duties also include learning how to safely fill riddling boxes, disgorging sparkling wine, bottling, forklift operation, and working with other employees to manage inventory. The candidate must be able to lift 40-50 pounds regularly while standing for 2-3 hours. The schedule is 7:30-3:30 Monday - Friday. MAWBY and bigLITTLE wine production happens at our 4th Street location in Suttons Bay. It is a cooperative work environment. While each person is assigned a role, everyone works together to get the work done and oftentimes jobs overlap and people work together closely or help each other with duties or fill in during absences.
This position works primarily with the Warehouse Manager for MAWBY and bigLITTLE. Job duties include inventory, packing, shipping and receiving all wine and supplies. The Lead Warehouse Assistant also assists with labeling of wine and assists with production and bottling when needed.
Essential Job Functions
- Maintains inventory at Elm Valley tasting rooms and records inventory records
- Cleans and organizes all warehouse spaces
- Rotates inventory according to standards (First In First Out)
- Assists with physical inventory at the production facility, Elm Valley and the warehouse buildings
- Prepares order for distributors and communicates with the Warehouse Manager and Operations Manager on order availability and timing
- Work with third party vendors to schedule freight as necessary
- Assists with all wine labeling operations including scheduling, supplies, and quality control
- Creates areas for packing and shipping products when needed
- Uses forklift to move products in the warehouse and load and unload products for shipment/deliveries
- Checks incoming orders with packing slip to make sure the order is accurate and complete
- Counts, and maintains inventory on all “raw” materials including glass, cork, cardboard, capsules, other bottling materials, and shipping supplies; Communicates order needs with the Winery Operations Manager
- Assists with weekly emptying of large recycling and garbage containers at Elm Valley
- Packs wine for shipment for Club orders as needed
- Assists with the disgorging process weekly including coordinating with others to schedule and prioritize
- Loads riddling boxes and gyropallete according to the schedule and priorities
- Assists with other winery operations including bottling
- Performs preventative maintenance on vehicles, trailers and forklift according to the schedule and as needed
- Participates in the safety of the production facility by reporting all unsafe conditions and following all employment and safety policies and procedures
- Job duties may vary depending the season and business needs
- Regular and consistent attendance is a requirement of every position at MAWBY
- Assists with harvest duties, overtime may be mandatory during harvest
- Maintain regular contact with the tasting room staff
Education / Experience / Skills
- Prior experience in warehouse and/or, winery production is preferred
- Able to use basic math to count inventory, add, subtract, and multiply
- Strong desire to do things the correct way and follow quality standards
- Strong attention to detail, highly organized and able to multitask
- Able to work cooperatively with a small group of production employees that share work duties
- Must have a valid driver’s license and be comfortable driving a box truck
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate with co-workers and outside contractors
Working Conditions
- Must be able to work in cool and hot temperatures
- Must be able to work in wet conditions, walk on floors that frequently are wet
- This position may be required to travel locally for deliveries, sometimes to events
- Uses machinery on the production floor including labeler, disgorger, corker, etc.

Physical Requirements
Employees must be able to perform those tasks that are essential to the job, with or without reasonable accommodation
- Frequently able to lift 50 pounds, push and pull heavy loads on a pallet jack
- Able to focus, read labels, drive a motor vehicle and a fork lift

- Frequent standing in one place as well as walking, reaching, and lifting (on feet during entire shift) in the production facility
