The Systems Engineering department is responsible for integrating an industry-leading web guiding portfolio of products and brands into complete end-to-end electro-mechanical and pneumo-hydraulic machine control systems. The Systems Engineer (Electrical, Controls) will play a pivotal role in processing customer orders to produce customer engineered web guiding systems. This position will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and revising electrical drawings and schematics to support the production of web guiding systems. The role will also include development of custom software and controls schemes to support customer requirements and improve or advance the design of custom guiding controls. The ideal candidate will have the ability to develop a deep understanding of control system components and function as a technical support resource to assist field service technicians with troubleshooting customer startup, operations, and down-time events.
This role will have a special emphasis on controls and programming for large web guiding systems, including the integration of a wide range of sensing and input signals with controller/driver responses and output controls. The candidate will be expected to develop standard controls packages to meet a range of customer needs, including technical drawings, software programs, and applications documentation i.e. users manuals and work instructions.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Design and Development:
- Work as a team member with other departments (Sales, Project Management, Supply Chain, Engineering and Operations) to design, manufacture, test and install equipment fulfilling customer expectations.
- Research customer specifications and conceive a control system design to meet the specification. This may include verbal and written communications with customer to meet and finalize customer’s expectations.
- Create and revise technical drawings, CAD models, and specifications for production equipment and processes.
- Innovate and implement modifications to enhance machine performance and adapt to new product requirements.
- Initiate and participate in design review meetings to encourage constructive design options from co-workers and team members.
- As well as interdepartmental communication to develop and agree upon a functional machine design and description that fulfills the customer specification
- Design electrical panel assemblies, electrical enclosures, and electrical component assemblies.
2. Project Management:
- Manage engineering projects from concept to completion, ensuring timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met.
- Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments for new designs and process changes.
- Review existing product designs and execute projects to improve manufacturabilty, reduce cost, and reduce throughput time.
- Take ownership of your project; project leadership, direct and indirect, is required and critical for project success and customer satisfaction.
3. Collaboration and Support:
- Partner with R&D, production, and quality assurance teams to integrate customer requirements into design and production processes.
- Provide technical support and training to operations teams during system manufacturing and production processes.
- Support the support; become the technical resource the technical support team relys on when they are unable to solve customer issues in the field.
4. Compliance and Documentation:
- Ensure designs and processes comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and company policies.
- Create documents (schematics and bills of material, programs) for production that fulfill the requirements of customer orders.
- Follow defined manufacturing and operation standards. Or help to create standards where none exist
- Generate detailed work instructions for existing and new production processes as related to manufacturing enclosures and electrical systems, and user instructions for software.
- Maintain software, drawing files and reference information on network to ensure revision controls and history is maintained
