Facilities Electrical Engineer / Project Manager
Summary Of Role
Responsible for sustaining, design, installation, and project management for electrical systems to support a solar factory in New Mexico. The team operates a variety of electrical systems. These systems are designed to run 24 hours a day, 365 days a year without interruption, creating a state-of-the-art manufacturing environment. Plans facilities changes for plant, office, and production equipment layouts, working toward economy of operation, maximum use of facilities and equipment, and compliance with laws and regulations. Coordinates with architecture/engineering firms in developing design criteria and preparing layout and detail drawings. Prepares bid sheets and contracts for construction and facilities acquisition. Reviews and estimates design costs including equipment, installation, labor, materials, preparation and other related costs. Inspects construction and installation progress for conformance to established drawings, specifications, and schedules. Develops criteria and performance specifications required to meet unique operating requirements and building and safety codes.

- Electrical testing & commissioning (TTR, insulation resistance, Power Factor Insulation, Dissolved Gas Analysis, Dielectric Breakdown Voltage, Circuit Breaker Testing, Protective Relay Calibration).
- Power System Study (Short Circuit, Coordination, Arc Flash)
- Power System and Controls single-line diagram interpretation
- Semi-conductor factory power supply distributions
- Emergency generators system
- UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) system
- VSC (Voltage Sag Correctors)
- VFD (Variable-speed drives)
- Transfer Switches - ATS (Automatic Transfer Switch) or CTTS (Closed Transition Transfer Switch)
- Direct and execute project commissioning to ensure all electrical systems equipment, components and infrastructure perform as designed
- Capital and expense projects execution in support of safety, reliability, quality, environmental and cost objectives.
- Power Quality Management (Total Harmonic Distortion)
- Electrical grounding systems (monitoring & maintenance)
- Provide Facilities electrical system engineering leadership to the site organizations in support of safety, reliability, quality, environmental and cost objectives.
- Collaborate with operations and maintenance team to develop plans for maximizing operational and maintenance efficiency.
- Establish system assessments and improvement roadmaps establishment and drive their execution.
- Permitting and Code compliance related to Electrical Systems and associated infrastructure
- Effectively manage system deliverables including points of delivery, utility parameters, specification limits and notification methods.
- Identify and maintain systems documentation and assist the operations team in SOP, SOO and training development.
- Work to integrate reliability focus and risk analysis into Engineering job scope. This includes FMEAs, root cause analysis, design, commissioning and training.
Project Management responsibilities:
- Team with other engineering disciplines, management, internal partners, and suppliers to ensure projects and systems are cost effective, within budget, meet the desired design criteria and schedule requirements
- Oversee projects to meet design criteria, scope, budget and schedule. Review and respond to construction management documentation such as submittals and requests for information.
- Manage all project related financial information to ensure compliance to budget, including change notices, purchase orders, capital forecasts and invoicing.
- Manage technical, administrative, financial, schedule aspects, strategic communications, and stakeholder relationships during the execution of various facilities projects
- Develop and implement programs targeted to improve quality, efficiency and effectiveness of electrical systems.
- Responsible for the engineering analysis, design, and installation oversight of the electrical distribution systems within the context of an operating manufacturing facility
- Project scopes will range from the installation of a single panel up to the design and installation factory-wide distribution systems
- Organize and plan design activities, create construction documents or manage external design teams in the execution of such deliverables.
- Create and communicate project documentation including sequence of operations, installation procedures, and checklists for commissioning and start-up
- Write scopes of work, bid request for proposals, specify and order material
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or equivalent degree
- 5 years of relevant experience
- Experienced in:
- Wiring, cable tray, conduit, transformer, and lighting calculations
- Application and selection of variable frequency drives, motor control centers, integrated motor starter disconnects, and three phase AC motors.
- UPS Systems, Automatic Transfer Switches, Generators, and Parallel switching gear.
- Current and relevant knowledge of low and medium voltage electrical gear and distributions and openness to learning high voltage equipment and work requirements
- Relevant understanding of:
- Arc flash requirements, calculations and labeling.
