MaxFund Animal Shelter Volunteer Manager

About MaxFund Animal Shelter:
MaxFund is a no-kill animal shelter dedicated to providing care and finding homes for abandoned and injured animals. We rely on a passionate team of volunteers to support our mission, ensuring that every animal receives the love and attention they deserve.
Position Overview:
The Volunteer Manager is responsible for overseeing MaxFund’s volunteer program, ensuring that volunteers are effectively recruited, trained, and engaged. This role requires strong leadership, excellent communication skills, and a passion for animal welfare. Must be able to work in a dynamic, high-energy, team-oriented environment. Must be culturally competent, have good judgment and tact, and enjoy working with a diverse variety of individuals and groups. The Volunteer Manager will work closely with shelter staff, community partners, and volunteers to enhance MaxFund’s programs and impact.
Key Responsibilities:
- Recruitment & Onboarding:
- Develop and implement strategies to attract and retain dedicated volunteers.
- Continually assess and adjust training priorities and volunteer manuals to adhere to the changing needs of MaxFund.
- Work closely with volunteer mentors to fulfill orientation and training needs and execution for new and existing volunteers.
- Program Coordination and Collaboration:
- Coordinate volunteer involvement in various shelter programs, such as animal care, adoption events, and fundraising activities.
- Maintain schedules and oversee daily volunteer activities.
- Assist with special events and fundraising activities, organizing and supervising volunteer participation.
- Schedule and assist with large corporate volunteer groups at the shelter.
- Collaborate with other staff members to ensure smooth operations and effective communication.
- Engagement & Retention:
- Foster a positive and inclusive volunteer culture.
- Develop recognition programs and appreciation events to motivate and retain volunteers.
- Communication & Support:
- Serve as the main point of contact for volunteers, providing guidance, answering questions, and resolving conflicts as needed.
- Develop and maintain effective communication channels with volunteers.
- Solicit and respond to volunteer suggestions, concerns, etc.
- Volunteer Management:
- Create and maintain volunteer schedules, ensuring adequate coverage for various tasks.
- Supervise and provide guidance to volunteers, addressing any issues or concerns.
- Evaluate volunteer performance and provide feedback.
- Maintain accurate records of volunteer hours, training, and activities.
- Community Outreach:
- Build partnerships with schools, businesses, and community groups to expand volunteer opportunities and increase engagement.
Ongoing Responsibilities:
- Attend meetings with staff and supervisors to maintain progress and accountability towards goals.
- Manage the volunteer coordinator and assign duties as necessary
- Other duties, as assigned and directly related to volunteer roles and functions
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Volunteer Coordination, Animal Welfare, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum of 2 years of experience managing volunteers, preferably in an animal shelter or nonprofit setting.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong time-management skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
- Proficiency in volunteer management software (Better Impact) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to work some evenings and weekends.
- Passion for animal welfare and commitment to MaxFund’s mission.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to sit, talk, hear, stand, walk; use hands and fingers, handle or operate objects, reach with hands and arms; climb and balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
- Ability to move throughout the building as needed to meet the requirements of the job.
- Ability to comfortably interact with companion animals.
- Ability to participate in events, including some evenings and weekends, and to assist in the set-up and breakdown of events, which may involve moderate physical exertion.
- Extended work at a computer managing schedules, applications, and communications.
- Ability to stand on feet without sitting for some lengths of time during events or programs.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Competitive salary based on experience. Salary range $65,000-$75,000
