JOB SUMMARY
- The Sweep Technician will be responsible for performing signal egress/ingress detection; sweeping alignment; installations; troubleshooting; test point measurements; system balance and preliminary proofs.
- The Sweep Technician will be responsible for performing emergency restoration of signal outages in the feeder/distribution and trunk systems
- The Sweep Technician will be responsible for adjusting, repairing or replacing passive or active components, including power supplies and power inserters.
- The Sweep Technician reports to the Manager, Technical Field Operations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
The Sweep Technician is accountable for the following items for MaxxSouth Broadband:
- Balancing, aligning, and adjustment of components and equipment used to amplify and process signals utilizing general system layouts from blue prints and system maps, routine troubleshooting, surveys, locates, outage repair, track/repair CLI, construction maintenance, in accordance with MaxxSouth procedures and practices.
- Performing forward and return distribution system activations and repairs.
- Collecting, analyzing and presenting information on an accurate and timely basis.
- Compiling data for inclusion in FCC reports;
- Maintaining records, conduct tests, and prepare reports as required in a timely and accurate manner.
- Testing main trunk lines using signal level meters, volt-OHM meters, spectrum analyzers and other related test equipment on a regular basis, compare findings in the field with documentation.
- Troubleshooting and repairing problems associated with RF, AC, DC portion of the forward and reverse plant, such as transmission levels, signal losses, and off-air interference.
- Occasionally perform routine troubleshooting on customer service related trouble calls.
- Troubleshooting the plant from the customer’s equipment through the distribution/feeder cable back to Head end.
- Performing troubleshooting of service failures related to all levels of service and products
- Surveying the plant in order to ensure service availability to potential subscribers.
- Performing locates of existing plant in order to prevent cable damage and system interruption.
- Responding to and repair service interruptions during regular business hours and after hours as required.
- Performing CLI ride-out and track and repair leakage, as necessary.
- Splicing aerial/underground coaxial cable and equipment to restore cable plant to system specifications.
- Repairing and/or replacing damaged aerial/underground plant.
- Maintaining company assigned vehicles, tools, test equipment and safety equipment.
- Performing customer courtesy calls before arriving and to check that they are onsite.
- Safely operating all equipment essential to complete work, including but not limited to extension ladders and bucket trucks and staying within safety weight limits in inclement weather.
- Reporting any system problems or damages to the Technical Supervisor in a timely manner;
- Maintaining a working relationship with managers and maintenance people in assigned areas.
- Other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED – required
- At least two (2) years in the cable field as a maintenance technician or high skill level.
- Comprehensive knowledge of trunk, distribution, and optoelectronic systems, contemporary Sweep test equipment, Analyzers, OTDR, TDR, and various RF equipment.
- Formal electronics training, NCTI, SCTE Certification or equivalent preferred.
- Computer literate with knowledge of Windows software
- Ability to perform physically demanding work and lift minimum of 75 lbs.
- Team oriented
- Ability to prioritize and organize effectively
