Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Peer Support Specialist – Part-Time
THE ROLE:
The part-time SUD Peer Support Specialist serves as a role model, mentor, advocate, and motivator to recovering individuals in order to help prevent relapse and promote long-term recovery. The SUD Peer Support Specialist must demonstrate an ability to share personal recovery experiences and to develop authentic peer-to-peer relationships.
A SUD Peer Support Specialist draws on their own experiences and other resources to assist people who are currently recovering from substance use disorders.
Primary tasks that the May Dugan Center SUD Peer Support Specialist will complete are:
· Conducting one-on-one coaching sessions (community-based, office-based, and virtual sessions).
· Developing, coordinating, and leading self-help meetings (i.e., Alcohol Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, etc.) leading support groups, and maintaining accurate records.
· Coordinating and leading May Dugan SUD Intensive Outpatient Program Alumni Meetings and events.
· Coordinating and leading programming to celebrate SUD Intensive Outpatient Program consumer successes (e.g., graduating, achieving 30, 60, 90 days of sobriety, etc.).
· Assisting in identifying gaps in care and opportunities to improve substance abuse treatment services provided through the May Dugan Center.
· Completing accurate and timely individual and group documentation, in compliance with OMHAS and Medicaid rules, in BestNotes or another electronic health record.
· Providing direct client care, in individual and group settings, a minimum of (less than 30) hours each week (50% based on total hours).
Additional Tasks of the SUD Peer Support Specialist:
· Assist SUD therapists and CDCA in developing and implementing an effective SUD Intensive Outpatient Program curriculum.
· Assist SUD consumers to obtain resources and reduce barriers to achieving and maintaining sustained recovery from alcohol and other drugs.
· Complete community outreach, including attending community events, as needed to promote May Dugan Center’s Substance Use Disorder Program.
· Must maintain active Ohio CPRS-Adult certification, including competing CEUs as required.
· Other duties as described.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
· Must be a Certified Peer Support Recovery Specialist (CPRS-Adult) in the State of Ohio.
· Must have knowledge of and experience in substance use disorders and effective treatment interventions.
· Must be in successful recovery for more than 2 years.
- Well-versed in pathways to recovery, including evidence-based practices.
- Intermediate computer proficiency, including Outlook, Microsoft, Teams, and Internet searches.
- Experience with EMR (Electronic Medical Records software).
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Able to meet minimum Ohio CPRS-Adult qualifications, as outlined in Ohio Administrative Code (OAC) 5122-29-15 and 5122-29-25.1.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Leading May Dugan Center self-help meetings and alumni group activities.
· Meeting with May Dugan Center SUD therapists and CDCA to establish, monitor, and update treatment plans.
· Providing coaching and emotional support for clients, individually and during support group sessions
· Connecting clients with resources related to addressing barriers to achieving and maintaining sobriety, including self-help meetings, sponsors, housing, transportation, treatment, etc.
· Helping clients manage appointments with substance use disorder and mental health professionals
· Reporting concerns about health and safety to other members of the care team.
· Keeping accurate records of client encounters.
· Writing recovery reviews to update client files.
· Maintaining client confidentiality.
· Engage clients in a personal, supportive manner.
- Coordinate with clinicians.
- Provide guidance within the purview of individual recovery plans.
- Assist clients with miscellaneous recovery needs.
- Help direct clients to relevant resources (e.g. detox, family support).
- Maintain records on BestNotes (or other electronic health record).
