We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Toddler Assistant Teacher. The Toddler Montessori Assistant Teacher supports the Lead Teacher in providing a nurturing and stimulating environment for children aged 20 months to 3 years. The assistant helps implement the Montessori method, facilitating children's growth, development, and independence, while maintaining a harmonious classroom environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support Classroom Environment: Assist in setting up and maintaining a prepared Montessori environment that is clean, orderly, and conducive to learning. Help with the daily setup and breakdown of the classroom, ensuring materials are readily available and properly maintained.
- Child Development: Support the Lead Teacher in observing and recording children's progress, providing individualized attention to support their developmental needs. Encourage independence and self-directed learning in children, in alignment with Montessori principles.
- Instructional Support: Assist with the presentation of Montessori lessons and activities, ensuring children are engaged and supported. Facilitate small group activities and one-on-one instruction as directed by the Lead Teacher.
- Behavior Management: Model and reinforce positive behavior, guiding children with respect and understanding. Support children in developing social skills, problem-solving abilities, and self-regulation.
- Communication: Maintain open and effective communication with the Lead Teacher, sharing observations and insights about the children’s progress and any concerns. Assist in maintaining communication with parents through written reports, newsletters, and parent-teacher conferences as needed.
- Professional Development: Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to deepen understanding of the Montessori philosophy and early childhood education. Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and school events as required.
- Safety and Well-being: Ensure the safety and well-being of all children in the classroom, adhering to school policies and procedures. Respond promptly and appropriately to emergencies, accidents, or incidents.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field preferred.
- Montessori certification or willingness to pursue Montessori training.
- Previous experience working with toddlers in a Montessori or early childhood setting is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of child development and the Montessori method.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, compassion, and a genuine love for working with young children.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry children up to 50 pounds.
- Frequent bending, kneeling, and standing.
- Ability to sit on the floor and interact at the child’s level.
