ATHLETIC COACH
Reports to: Athletic Director; Principal
Dept./Campus: Assigned Campus
Wage/Hour Status: Exempt
Length of Contract: 210 Days
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Provide instruction and coach students to develop skills and ability to excel in the sport assigned. Contribute to the education program as a whole and the growth of students involved in athletics.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
Valid Arkansas teaching certificate with required endorsements for sport and level assigned
Coaching license from ADE or coaching credentials from AAA
Possess a CDL with proper bus driver certifications
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
General knowledge of coaching techniques and procedures
Knowledge of rules
Ability to instruct and supervise student-athletes
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
At least one year of student teaching or an approved internship preferred

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

- Use various instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and improve student-athletes abilities in the sport assigned.
- Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, and good sportsmanship.
- Work with other school staff members to plan and implement instructional goals and objectives to ensure student-athletes overall educational development.
- Establish performance criteria for competition and evaluate students’ athletic abilities initially and regularly.
- Take all necessary precautions to protect student-athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Keep informed of and ensure compliance with all AAA rules.
- Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation.
- Work with the athletic director to schedule competitions and coordinate arrangements.
- Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the coaching program and make changes based on findings.
- Accompany and supervise student-athletes during athletic competitions in assigned sports, including out-of-town trips.
- Instruct and advise students on NCAA regulations about academic scholarship requirements and recruiting practices.
- Apply and enforce student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions, and trips off school property, following the athletic and student handbook.
- Encourage, by example and through instruction, sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation.
- Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
- Assist in the selection of equipment and instructional materials.
- Compile, maintain, and file all required physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents.
- Maintain a current inventory of all fixed assets/inventory within the program.
- Oversee the process of cleaning, repairing, and storing all campus athletic equipment.
- Other duties assigned by the principal or athletic director.
SUPERVISORY DUTIES:
Supervise assistant coaches (if applicable)
