THIS IS A CONTINUOUS RECRUITMENT to CREATE an APPLICANT POOL.
Openings may or may not exist at this time. Applications are evaluated on an as-needed basis when hiring managers have a part-time adjunct position that needs to be filled in a college transfer course.
All college transfer courses require a Master's Degree with a minimum of 18-credit hours in a teaching concentration, e.g., A person with a Master's in History with 18-credit hours in Psychology could teach both History and Psychology.
Applicants must submit a copy of their transcripts to complete the application. A copy of your transcript(s) is required to evaluate your credentials to meet SACS requirements. You will be required to submit official transcripts if you are placed in a position.
Mayland Community College is a small, comprehensive community college located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina. The College serves over 8,000 general education, vocational, and technical students each year through curriculum education classes. The College is one of the 58 institutions in the North Carolina Community College System and serves an area of approximately 50,000 persons. Total annual institutional FTE is 2,000.
Primary Duties
Under general supervision of the Division Dean or the program coordinator within the Division, the faculty member teaches assigned class loads and serves as faculty advisor according to the rules and procedures of the College.
- Provides classroom and course management in a manner that is consistent with appropriate professional conduct
- Assists students outside of scheduled class times as needed
- Utilizes methods of instruction and teaching techniques that are appropriate to the fulfillment of course goals and objectives
- Furnishes all data and reports according to deadlines set by the Academics Services Division using appropriate forms and formats
- Develops and maintains syllabi following the syllabus template for courses within the academic field(s) of responsibility, submits an electronic copy to the Division Dean and provides the students a copy the first week of class
- Maintains accurate class rosters (census reports and final attendance reports), and submits those rosters in the same manner at the times required by the Division Dean and Director of Admissions, Records, and Registration
- Submits final grades each semester as specified on Academic Calendar
- Submit Early Alerts and Administrative Withdrawals as outlined in MCC procedures
- Attends faculty and unit meetings and workshops as scheduled
- Actively participates in the faculty evaluation process
- Notifies Division Dean of any absences or alterations in the class schedule in advance and in writing, if possible
- Carries out special assignments at the request of the Division Dean
- Reviews and recommends textbooks, reference materials, software, audio visual aids, and learning resources for classroom use
- Participates in comprehensive and annual program reviews
- Recommends curriculum revisions and modifications to supervisor
- Maintains professional and technical
- Has knowledge of requirements of working with students with disabilities and coordinating services, as required by appropriate college staff and community agencies
Minimum Qualifications
History Instructor - Master's degree in History or a Master's degree with 18 graduate hours in History.
Political Science Instructor - Master's degree in Political Science or a Master's degree with 18 graduate hours in Political Science.
Art Instructor - Master's degree in Art / Fine Arts or a Master's degree with 18 graduate hours in Art / Fine Arts.
Sociology Instructor - Master's degree in Sociology or a Master's degree with 18 graduate hours in Sociology.
Psychology Instructor - Master's degree in Psychology or a Master's degree with 18 graduate hours in Psychology.
English / Literature Instructor - Master's degree in English / Literature or a Master's degree with 18 graduate hours in English / Literature.
Biology Instructor - Master's degree in Biology or a Master's degree with 18 graduate hours in Biology.
Chemistry Instructor - Master's degree in Chemistry or a Master's degree with 18 graduate hours in Chemistry.
Mathematics Instructor - Master's degree in Mathematics or a Master's degree with 18 graduate hours in Mathematics.
Drama Instructor - Master of Fine Arts in Theater.
Physics Instructor - Master of Science in Physics.
Physical Education Instructor - Masters in Physical Education; Masters in Physical Education & Health.
Preferred Qualifications
Teaching experience in the community college system.
