What are the responsibilities and job description for the (S) Weight Room Monitor position at Mayville State University?
Under the direction of Student Affairs, the Wellness Center employs a monitor for the Weight Room and, to a lesser extent, the Wellness Center.
Important Background Information
Student fees paid by enrolled students pay for the maintenance of the Wellness Center. However, the funds for the Weight Room are raised by the Athletic Department, and the ‘daytime’ hours of the Weight Room are reserved for student-athletes who are directly under the supervision of coaches. During the school year, teams reserve Weight Room team time through the Athletics Office.
Students – non-athletes or others – may use the Weight Room Sunday through Friday evenings, 6:30 – 9:15 pm. The presence and observation of users of the facility by the weight room monitor makes this possible. It is possible we will expand to this include weekend hours.
Responsibilities
The Weight Room Monitor will:
- be in the Wellness Center and will be present in the Weight Room prior to, and ready to work at, 6:30 pm on nights of their shift;
- will be in the Weight Room continually until the Weight Room closes at 9:15 pm;
- conduct light cleaning, as assigned, throughout the night;
- following cleaning and other closing protocols, as assigned, each night;
- ensure safety protocols are followed by Wellness Center guests and Weight Room users; and
- contact campus security or other emergency service providers as necessary.
During periods when no Weight Room users are in the Weight Room, and after cleaning routines are completed, the student employee may do homework or personal internet use. When a Weight Room user is in the Weight Room, no homework or personal internet usage may occur.
Application and Compensation
Most students on this team will work one, five hour shift, per week. Pay is $10.25/hour.
