What are the responsibilities and job description for the Development Science Intern position at Maze Therapeutics?
The Program
Maze Therapeutics offers a dynamic 9-week summer internship program designed to provide hands-on experience and professional growth opportunities. As a Maze intern, you will take ownership of your own projects and gain practical insights and learning from Maze employees. You will participate in several events and trainings with your fellow interns, including professional development workshops, discussions with Maze executive leaders, and opportunities to present your research. The program concludes with a company-wide presentation and celebration. This immersive experience provides a meaningful opportunity to contribute to innovative research, grow professionally, and learn more about the biotechnology industry.
The Position
We are seeking an enthusiastic, detail-oriented life sciences student who is motivated by the opportunity to improve patients’ lives through research, discovery, and teamwork. As a Development Science Intern, you’ll support clinical trial operations for Maze’s investigational therapies, gaining hands-on experience in clinical trial planning, execution, and data review. In addition to collaborating with the Development Science team on ongoing trials and patient advocacy initiatives, you’ll also lead an independent research project focused on emerging technologies and tools that can optimize and accelerate clinical trial design. Throughout the summer, you’ll engage with colleagues across functions, including medicinal chemistry, computational biology, and human genetics, to broaden your exposure to the biotechnology industry.
This internship is an excellent opportunity to gain real-world experience in clinical development, develop critical problem-solving skills, and contribute to advancing innovative treatments for patients.
How You’ll Contribute
Maze Therapeutics is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company harnessing the power of human genetics to develop novel, small molecule precision medicines for patients living with renal, cardiovascular and related metabolic diseases, including obesity. The company is advancing a pipeline using its Compass platform, which allows it to identify and characterize genetic variants in disease and then link those variants to the biological pathways that drive disease in specific patient groups through a process it refers to as variant functionalization. The company’s pipeline is led by two wholly owned lead programs, MZE829 and MZE782, each of which represents a novel precision medicine-based approach for chronic kidney disease. Maze is based in South San Francisco.
Our People
Maze is comprised of a team of passionate and creative professionals committed to discovering and delivering transformative medicines to patients suffering from both rare and common genetic diseases. We are fostering a culture that encourages vision, initiative and the development of talent. Our supportive work environment inspires creative thinking and freedom of expression, resulting in a stimulating atmosphere where people enjoy coming to work. While we have a passion for advanced science and pride ourselves on excellence in execution, ultimately, everything we do is about patients.
Our Core Values

The internship is scheduled to commence on June 16, 2025, and will conclude on August 15, 2025 (with potential flexibility in dates).
