What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director, Medical Science Liaison position at Maze Therapeutics?
The Position :
Are you passionate about building meaningful relationships with healthcare professionals and shaping the future of patient care? As a Director, Medical Science Liaison (MSL) on our Clinical Science team, you will play a key role in engaging external experts, supporting clinical programs, and shaping medical affairs strategy. Your work will directly impact Maze’s mission to develop treatments for APOL1 kidney disease, other chronic kidney diseases, and phenylketonuria (PKU) —areas with significant unmet medical need.
In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with healthcare providers, patient advocacy groups, and professional societies, ensuring our programs align with the latest advancements in the field. You’ll also provide valuable clinical insights that help shape our broader strategy, working alongside cross-functional teams in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
The Impact You’ll Have
- Build and maintain peer-to-peer relationships with key external experts in nephrology, inborn errors of metabolism, and related areas through in-person and virtual interactions.
- Support clinical trial execution by assisting with site selection, investigator training, trial recruitment, and ongoing site engagement.
- Partner with Maze’s patient advocacy team to cultivate relationships with patient advocacy groups and support scientific outreach and education efforts
- Identify areas of strategic collaboration , by developing relationships with professional societies to stay ahead of emerging trends.
- Gather and share clinical insights with internal teams to help shape drug development, scientific communications, and strategic initiatives.
- Develop and execute tactical plans to support Maze’s programs and align with broader company objectives
- Support scientific exchange and education with advisory boards, medical congresses, and data presentations
- Maintain compliance with all regulatory guidelines while ensuring clear and effective communication across stakeholders.

The expected annual salary range for employees located in the San Francisco Bay Area is $227,000 to $277,000. Additionally, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus.
Maze performs position-based compensation benchmarking to industry market data to ensure we pay competitive wages. Determination of starting salary will depend upon a variety of job-related factors, which may include professional experience, skills, and job location. The expected salary range for this role may be modified in the future.
