The Position
As the Senior Director, Biostatistics, you’ll play a critical role in shaping the development of Maze’s therapeutics by providing expert statistical leadership. You will work closely with teams across Clinical Science, Regulatory Affairs, Clinical Pharmacology, Development Science, and Translational Science to ensure the integrity and impact of our clinical programs.
In this role, you’ll oversee biostatistical strategy and execution, from study design to regulatory submissions, and be a key contributor to clinical development plans. You’ll also represent Biostatistics in clinical study teams and interactions with global Health Authorities. We’re looking for someone who can balance hands-on statistical expertise with high-level strategic collaboration.
The position will report to the Vice President, Clinical Science.

The company is advancing a pipeline using its Compass platform, which allows it to identify and characterize genetic variants in disease and then link those variants to the biological pathways that drive disease in specific patient groups through a process it refers to as variant functionalization. The company’s pipeline is led by two wholly owned lead programs, MZE829 and MZE782, each of which represents a novel precision medicine-based approach for chronic kidney disease. Maze is based in South San Francisco.

The expected annual salary range for employees located in the San Francisco Bay Area is $225,000 to 275,000. Additionally, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus.
Maze performs position-based compensation benchmarking to industry market data to ensure we pay competitive wages. Determination of starting salary will depend upon a variety of job-related factors, which may include professional experience, skills, and job location. The expected salary range for this role may be modified in the future.

- Provide statistical expertise in clinical development plans, study protocols, regulatory documents, publications, and presentations.
- Develop and execute statistical analysis plans, ensuring accuracy, integrity, and alignment with clinical development objectives.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with clinical and regulatory teams to drive program and study success.
- Oversee and manage biostatistics vendors and contract personnel to ensure high-quality outputs.
- Support biomarker research and exploratory data analyses as needed.

- PhD in Statistics or Biostatistics with 7 years of experience working in early- and late-stage clinical development in the pharma/biotech industry.
- Experience with new drug applications (NDAs) or marketing authorization applications (MAAs) is strongly preferred.
- Deep knowledge of clinical study designs, statistical analysis techniques, and regulatory expectations.
- Proficiency in SAS and/or R for statistical analysis.
- Strong problem-solving and project management skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- A collaborative mindset, leading by example, influencing effectively, and fostering teamwork.
