The Demand Buyer role focuses on effectively securing and deploying resources to meet production needs, emphasizing cost efficiency, quality, and timely delivery. Collaboration is key, requiring partnership with sales, production planners, expeditors, and operations teams. This tactical role involves making timely decisions, navigating complex information to solve problems, and ensuring accountability by meeting or exceeding delivery commitments to support operations and production.
Purchasing responsibilities include and not limited to:
- Specific supplier qualifications and selection
- Price and payment terms negotiations
- Understanding and providing any needed training, written procedures & product knowledge of key supplier criteria, i.e. contract pricing, supplier lead-time considerations, freight responsibility.
- Ensure order confirmation / acknowledgement requirement from supplier base is adhered to for internal Purchase Order match up / confirmation process
- Place purchase orders with approved suppliers based on approved requests, approved requisitions, or current ERP system. Includes data entry, printing, and sending of purchase order. Ensures necessary drawings, specifications, and special information is part of purchase order and forwarded to suppliers when required
- Works closely with Fulfillment team regarding purchasing material requirements and related vendor buy opportunities to support operations.
- Maintain accurate records, both electronic and manual filing systems for all purchase orders, attachments, quotations, requisitions, etc. in accordance with standard documentation control procedures
- Drive supplier OTD performance (On Time Delivery) to >95% thru improved material availability
- Collaborate with inside, outside sales, planners, expeditors and operations to provide on time delivery of finished goods for customer orders
- Review part requirements and/or min/max triggers and utilize ERP system to evaluate material requirements for internal manufacturing consumption as well as external customer orders
- Communicate effectively with inside, outside sales, planners, expeditors and operations on the status of schedule delays, customer expedites or cancellations, and schedule attainment concerns
- Provide updated shipping dates and communication to the appropriate personnel
- Works with the Quality Department regarding disposition of non-conformance products
- Maintain appropriate data files on active suppliers, standard costs, and lead-times
- Act as point of escalation for any local supplier issues
- Other duties as assigned
Education:
A high school diploma or GED is required; an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university with a focus in Supply Chain, Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Engineering, or related discipline; in the absence of a degree, directly related job experience serving in an industrial purchasing role, where a number of years and proven knowledge may offset the degree requirement.
Experience & Skills:
- At least two years of progressively responsible purchasing and materials control experience in a manufacturing or distribution environment
- Advanced Excel abilities a plus
- Excellent math skills and overall PC literacy (Microsoft Office) are required
- Experience using continuous improvement tools and methodologies
- Requires solid written and verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical, conceptual, and planning skills are required
- Collaborate effectively with others in a team environment
- Must be detail oriented, self-motivated, and disciplined with the ability to manage short-term priorities and multiple tasks
- Must successfully complete a criminal background check, drug screen and E-Verify
