A Day in the Life
The Director of Construction will provide leadership and strategic direction for national construction operations. This role is pivotal in delivering measurable, cost-effective results while managing multiple projects and capital improvements. The Director will drive the development of innovative methodologies for new store and remodel projects, giving Mo’Bettahs a competitive edge. This position requires collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders, including internal customers, external vendors, real estate partners, landlords, and general contractors. The Director reports directly to the VP of Development.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Communicate effectively through digital and in-person interactions.
- Build high-performing teams with a focus on talent development for future growth.
- Lead the team with vision and organizational leadership to achieve company goals.
- Oversee the on-time and on-budget execution of new stores and remodels, including contractor negotiations, changes to construction work scope, cost, and schedules.
- Oversee detailed construction cost estimates for rehab/design-build project funding, including value engineering. Guide the team to identify and evaluate alternative solutions to best meet project goals.
- Develop a team of leaders that foster and maintain a positive working environment for all associates.
- Identify and drive continuous improvement of operational efficiencies, leveraging data and insights to assess, manage, and mitigate project risk.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
- Strong ability to develop relationships both internally and externally.
- Ability to influence across multiple levels both internally and externally.
- Thorough knowledge of all phases of Property Development, including Real Estate, Legal, and Store Planning processes.
- Excellent communication skills with various parties, including store operators, field management, general contractors, consultants, architects, and landlords.
- Thorough knowledge of construction trades, building codes, and building methods.
- Strong project management skills, demonstrated through experience in managing construction projects from planning stages through occupancy.
- Ability to delegate and manage multiple projects effectively.
- Demonstrates flexibility and can work in a state of ambiguity.
- Ability to think strategically, anticipate future consequences and trends.
- Ability to take initiative, use good judgment, demonstrate a strong sense of urgency, and carry multiple projects through to completion.
- Ability to travel 25% of the time.
Education and Experience:
- 10 years of construction experience in the QSR retail industry.
- Bachelor’s degree in a construction-related field.
- MBA preferred.
Working Conditions:
- Position requires qualified individuals to see, hear, and speak (verbally and audibly).
- Required to ascend and descend stairs; sit and stand for extended periods of time; lift up to 30 pounds; bend, stoop, and kneel.
- May be required to work outside in various weather conditions.
- May be required to work on a computer for extended periods, including viewing the screen, using a mouse, manipulating a keyboard with hands, and reaching with arms.
- May be asked to drive or travel by car, air, or other transportation for business purposes.
- Must be able to function effectively in a fast-paced working environment.
- Must be able to report to work responsive, free from sedatives, and in a non-sedative state.
- Must disclose prescribed and/or over-the-counter pharmaceuticals that may impair or affect the ability to perform the job's essential functions.
- Natural and regular stressors occur on the job.
