Database Administrator/Developer

Summary

This position requires a highly skilled and motivated individual to serve as both a Database Administrator and Developer. A qualified candidate will be responsible for the design, implementation and maintenance of the organization’s database systems, including relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server), NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Dynamo, Cassandra), and cloud-based database services (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL). This role demands a strong understanding of SQL, data modeling, database performance tuning, and security best practices.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Database Administration

• Design, implement, and maintain database systems across various platforms (on-premises and cloud).
• Ensure high availability, performance, and security of database systems.
• Monitor database performance, identify and resolve bottlenecks.
• Implement and maintain database backups and recovery procedures.
• Plan and execute database upgrades and migrations.
• Manage user accounts, permissions, and access control.
• Troubleshoot database-related issues and provide technical support.
• Stay abreast of the latest database technologies and trends.

Database Development

• Develop and maintain database objects such as tables, views, stored procedures, and functions.
• Write and optimize complex SQL queries.
• Design and implement data models and schemas.
• Develop and maintain data integration processes.
• Work closely with application developers to ensure data integrity and consistency

Technologies in Use

• Relational Databases: MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server
• NoSQL Databases: MongoDB, Cassandra
• Cloud Databases: AWS RDS, Azure SQL
• Scripting Languages: Python, Shell Scripting (preferred)
• Cloud Platforms: AWS, Azure (preferred)

Technical Skills

• Strong proficiency in SQL and database design principles.
• Experience with a variety of database platforms (relational, NoSQL, cloud).
• Experience with scripting languages (Python, Shell Scripting).
• Knowledge of data modeling and normalization techniques.
• Experience with database performance tuning and optimization.
• Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure).
• Experience with data security and compliance best practices (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with manufacturing
• SCRUM, Sprint grooming and planning
• Monitoring and supporting cloud infrastructure
• Experience upgrading legacy applications to modern technologies
• Preference for experience in manufacturing or similar industry
• Familiarity with development requirements for publicly traded companies, including SOC2, ADA, ISO, PCI

Education and/or Experience

• Minimum of 4 years of working experience within discipline
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills:  Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.  Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.  Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.  Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

Mathematical Skills:  Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability:  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Work Environment Office environment.
