Job Summary

The Superintendent manages resources and contracts to reduce corrective work bank items and ensures compliance with preventative maintenance requests. Critical responsibilities involve overseeing accurate, timely, and report-compliant corrective maintenance work completion. The Superintendent plays a crucial role in optimizing operational efficiency within Transit Facilities Maintenance and E&M.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversee Supervisors/Managers and other personnel as needed to ensure the smooth operation of building and station maintenance programs.
  • Conduct routine site visits ensuring team compliance and efficiency.
  • Develop and/or assist with management of maintenance contracts, ensuring specifications, and work plans for MBTA's stations and facilities infrastructure meet state, federal, guidelines.
  • Manage resources and contracts efficiently in reducing corrective maintenance items, and continually develop strategies on improving overall reliability of infrastructure.
  • Respond to inquiries from customers, vendors, or co-workers courteously and professionally, following the Authority’s customer service quality standard.
  • Be available to work all shifts and locations as assigned, including driving to visit work sites, and assisting in emergencies, service disruptions, or other events as needed.
  • Respond directly or through others and report to work for emergencies, extreme weather conditions, or any abnormal conditions affecting service or safety, 24/7.

  • Use experience with Enterprise Asset Management Systems (EAMS) or Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) to enhance maintenance operations.
  • Perform all other duties and projects that may be assigned.


Supervision

  • Oversee Supervisors/Managers and other personnel as needed.

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) from an accredited institution with the ability to comprehend, communicate and respond to instructions, orders, signs, notices, inquiries, etc. in English.
  • Twelve (12) years related experience in the construction industry with knowledge of Fire Suppression Systems and repairing hoist/lifts.
  • Two (2) years of supervisory/leadership experience in a related capacity.
  • Knowledge of maintenance systems and working trades (pipefitting, HVAC, machinists, plumbers, etc.).
  • Knowledge of Safety regulations and Safe practices for the Construction Industry.
  • Effective organizational, analytical, time management and multi-tasking skills.
  • Experience with CMMS such as Trapeze, Maximo, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and present effectively to a diverse group of stakeholders and customers.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license without infractions in accordance with MBTA policy.
  • Have the ability to work any and all shifts and/or locations assigned or directed.
  • Be available to work twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week, 365 days per year.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and work effectively with a diverse workforce.

Preferred Experience And Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, facilities management, or a related field from an accredited college.
  • Additional years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience working with Union Employees highly preferred.

  • Have a satisfactory work record for the two (2) years immediately prior to the closing date of this posting (unless if recent graduate), including overall employment, job performance, discipline, and safety records (infractions and/or offenses occurring after the closing of the posting and before the filling of a vacancy may preclude a candidate from consideration for selection)
  • Ability to pass a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check, comprehensive background screening, and medical Clinic screening, potentially including a physical examination and drug and alcohol screenings
  • Ability to work all shifts and / or locations assigned, directed, or necessary for this position, including (for some transit / operations roles) up to twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week as necessary to accommodate severe weather conditions, emergencies, or any other circumstances that may potentially impact service or the safety of service
