YOUTH MINISTRIES LEADER
Reports to: Lead Pastor
Status: 6-8 hours/week
FLSA: Exempt
Principle Function
McAllen FIRST UMC is a faith family for all, serving all as we make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. We are seeking an energetic and motivated individual to be the Director of Youth Ministries for our 6th – 12th graders.
Duties & Responsibilities
Youth Group
- Lead weekly youth group (currently Sunday morning and Wednesday evenings).
- Plan and develop lessons, curriculum, games, and fellowship.
- Recruit, train, and support youth volunteers.
- Plan, promote, organize, lead mission work, summer, and special events.
Relational Ministry
- Build relationships with teens through interactions inside and outside the church; encourage volunteers to do the same.
- Provide regular communication to students, parents, volunteers, and congregation.
Qualifications / Core Competencies
- Teamwork and Team Building: Works well as part of a staff team and leader of a team of volunteers. Able to motivate volunteers and create an environment that cultivates involvement.
- Spiritual Maturity: Intentional about growth in faith and seeks to live out the teachings of Jesus and able to help others grow in their faith through the youth ministry.
- Management Skills: Delegates work and empowers volunteers. Uses available resources (people, funding, material, support) to accomplish the mission of reaching youth with the Good News of Jesus.
Applicants should have a knowledge of Methodism or be willing to learn basic Methodist doctrine, theology, and tradition.
Applicant must also agree to abide by the Personnel Policies and Benefits manual of McAllen First United Methodist Church, comply with church safety policy, and be willing to complete Safe Gathering certification programs, including passing a background check as required by the Safe Gatherings program of the Rio Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church.
Bilingual is preferred.
