What are the responsibilities and job description for the Clinical Specialist position at MCAR, Inc.?
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Clinical Specialist will develop behavioral assessments and a subsequent behavioral support plans. The behavioral plans will be provided to the Program Specialists for training purposes. The Clinical Specialist acts as the liaison to PS to ensure individuals with behavioral challenges are supported with a behavioral support plan to address disruptive and challenging behaviors. Observation may be required outside of normal business hours and on weekends. The PS and Clinical Specialist, will also assist in training direct care staff to ensure the implementation of the behavioral plan. The Clinical Specialist will continue to be a resource in the transfer of knowledge to staff as needed. The Clinical Specialist will work in conjunction with the Clinical Director and Program Specialists and coordinates clinical activities, resources, reports, and work assignments. The Clinical Specialist supports the MCAR Crisis Team, as necessary.
The Clinical Specialist works in conjunction with the PS to provide in-put to the Mercer County Behavioral Health Commission (BHC) Support Coordinators with the goal of maintaining a current Individual Support Plan (ISP) which addresses behavioral challenges and behavioral support plans.
The Clinical Specialist may work varied hours depending on program and individual needs that requiring on-site observation staffing and/or training. The Clinical Specialist will be visible in the Group Homes on a regular basis during various shifts and on various week or weekend shifts to develop an understanding of our individuals in their home environments, and to develop trust and cooperation between the Residential/and the Clinical Staff. The Clinical Specialist will also become familiar with other MCAR individuals supported through the community programs and be prepared to assist with behavioral issues and/or training in the CPS Program as requested.
Other duties as may be assigned by the Clinical Director, Operations Manager or Chief Operations Officer.
ESSENTIAL JOB AND DECISION MAKING RESPONSIBILITIES:
The clinical Specialist will work 1:1 with any individual as required in the Behavioral Plan, ISP, or based on residential needs until the identified behavior is manageable by the Direct Service Worker.
Adherence to all Agency policies and State and Federal regulations.
Liaisons with Clinical Director and Psychiatrist or Certified Psychiatric Registered Nurse.
Liaisons with Residential Program Supervisors Program Specialists, Supports Coordinators, family members, etc.
Liaisons with CPS Program Supervisors when there is carry-over behavioral challenges in the CPS Program.
Development and writing of behavioral support plans.
Development and implementation of behavioral support plans.
Fully utilizes BSS hours to improve behavior of Individuals and enter clinical notes into the online system utilized by MCAR, Inc.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
- Master's Degree in Behavioral Sciences, Family & Community Services, Mental Health, Psychology, Human Development or a related Human Services Field
- Two (2) years' experience working with individuals with MH/ID disabilities in a Human Service Agency, preferred
- Successful completion of the Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA) Training
- Knowledge of social work concepts, theories and practices
- Knowledge of individual or group counseling concepts, theories and practices
- Knowledge of personnel supervision concepts, theories and practices
- Knowledge of MCAR's policies and procedures
- Knowledge of Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) techniques for use during consumer crisis/emergency situations
- Ability to incorporate new technologies and/or philosophies (e.g. positive approaches, restrictive programming procedures, etc.) into writing person-centered individual support plans for individuals supported
- Ability to interpret and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures
- Ability to organize and prioritize program and individual needs
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing
