Recovery Coach - REACH Program Women's and Family Recovery Navigator

The Women’s REACH Program is designed to provide outreach, engagement, case management, recovery coaching, community connections to treatment, and recovery support resources to women, in particular those who are pregnant and/or parenting and their families. The Women’s and Family Recovery Navigator (WFRN) will provide support to clients in the REACH Program in the DMHAS Region 5 area, serving greater Danbury, Torrington and Waterbury communities (and all towns). The WFRN will be a hybrid position that maintains a caseload standard of 50% Women’s Recovery Navigator (WRN) clients and 50% WFRN clients, which may vary at times based on community need. The WFRN will spend 70% of their role in the community engaging pregnant and/or parenting women with substance use or co-occurring disorders (i.e. WRN clients) and parenting or pregnant/expectant fathers, grandparents, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, intersex, and asexual (LGBTQIA ) individuals, partners of WRN clients, and other immediate parenting family or natural supports who have been impacted by substance use personally or by the use of the parent of the child/children they are caring for (i.e. WFRN clients). Reaching the goals of the program will help the women, families and individuals make supported healthcare and reproductive health choices including those that promote a safe pregnancy and will also mitigate the financial costs associated with substance use and increase lifesaving interventions for women and families.

Major Responsibilities:

1. Provides peer support and case management to promote recovery from substance use disorders, including opioid use disorder. This will include conducting active outreach and engagement with providers/community agencies annually.

2. Provides introduction to and assists with adjustment parenting and other community supports. Assists clients with the voluntary self-exclusion process.

3. Assists in professional training, outreach and public education services as assigned. This may include appearing at professional conferences, workshops and training for behavioral health agencies and organizations.

4. Documentation of job activities in client record as required.

5. Assists REACH Program Supervisor and clinical staff as directed.

6. Attends trainings and meetings pertinent to the position, unit and MCCA as a whole.

7. Collect and submit data reports to the program supervisor.

8. Demonstrates a continued development of knowledge and understanding about the history, traditions, values, family systems and artistic expression of groups served as well as uses appropriate methodological approaches, skills and techniques that reflect an understanding of culture.

9. Regulatory and Corporate Compliance Responsibilities, understanding and adhering to MCCA compliance standards as they appear in the MCCA agency's policies/procedures. Completes all training in a timely manner as required by state and federal regulations and specific to the department and position.

10. The WFRN may provide other outreach and educational activities both within MCCA and in community-at-large, and performs related duties as required.

11. Has daily access to a car and can provide client transportation for program related services.

Minimum Qualifications:

The Women’s Recovery Navigator:

1. has a high school diploma or Graduate Equivalency Degree (GED).

2. will be a woman or any individual who identifies as a woman who has who has maintained a minimum of two (2) years lived experience of being a person in recovery from substance use or co-occurring disorder or has the lived experience of supporting immediate family/partner in their recovery from substance use or co-occurring disorder.

3. will be at a place in their recovery where they are comfortable using their lived experience to help others.

4. has successfully completed or will complete (within two (2) months of hire) a DMHAS approved thirty (30) hour recovery-oriented training program and if previously completed, can provide documentation of such

5. demonstrates extensive knowledge of recovery-based supports, both traditional and non- traditional, and demonstrates the ability to integrate these resources into treatment.

6. has a working understanding of mental health disorders and how these diagnoses may impact recovery.

7. has a well-established understanding of the role and impact of trauma and gender on all aspects of outreach, engagement, treatment and recovery.

8. maintains an unbiased, working knowledge of methadone and other medication assisted treatment formulations as a tool to support recovery.

9. maintains an unbiased, working knowledge of harm reduction principles to support recovery.

10. preserves a working knowledge of women’s issues and is comfortable discussing topics such as sexual and reproductive health including birth control and abortion, intimate partner violence, pregnancy, etc.

11. can deliver services in person and when requested by the agency or the Department.

12. can work collaboratively with clients, their family, community partners and agency professionals.

13. can provide client transportation for program related services.

14. Is comfortable learning and using new technology for purposes including but not limited to documentation, presentations, data collection and reporting.

15. has a valid US driver’s license and daily access to a car and can provide client transportation for program related services.

16. Will have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to work with a complex interdisciplinary team. Knowledge and skills related to individual, group, and family system dynamics.
