Statement of Job

The Truck Driver’s primary responsibility is to ensure the timely and safe movement of materials (Raw & Finish) using McCain owned / leased equipment to include shipments to and from offsite storage facilities. Responsibilities also include conducting safety inspections on the tractor and trailers, yard checks and cleaning of equipment (tractor / trailers), and operating forklifts when movement of trailers is not required. Other responsibilities include working in other areas of the department when not driving.

Job Functions :

Accountable for inspecting all trucks and trailers for safety and cleanliness.
Complete trailer moves in a safe and efficient manner.
Set refrigerated trailers at pre-determined temperatures for safe product storage and shipment.
Adhere to established GMP, USDA, OSHA, plant guidelines and departmental policies as informed by the Human Resources and department leadership.
Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and accurately complete paperwork.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Strong knowledge of safety regulations, to be familiar with not just traffic laws

Clean driving records.

Physical fitness since Truck Drivers are required to pass a physical exam every two years.

Hand-eye coordination, since they must coordinate their hands, legs, and eyes to maintain a fast reaction time on the roads.

Visual and hearing acuity, in accordance with federal regulations which mandate that truck drivers must hear a forced whisper at 5 feet, have at least 20 / 40 vision, a 70-degree field of vision and the ability to distinguish the colors of traffic lights.

Must have a Class A CDL with medical endorsements.

Special Requirements :

Requires mental and manual skill, initiative and independence.

Requires computer skills and SAP knowledge in receiving and shipping of materials, as well as pallet tracking.

Requires forklift certification.

Able to work 12-hour shifts.

Scope of Authority

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (Competencies)

Mathematical ability to perform basic calculations.

Ability to multi-task and prioritize efficiently using effective time management and organizational skills.

Physically capable of performing all required duties including some heavy and / or repetitive lifting (up to 50lbs).

Willing to work and adapt to cold temperatures.

High school diploma or equivalent.

Must be willing to cross-train in other areas.

Must be willing to work in a team-based atmosphere.

Perform all other tasks as requested by warehouse management to meet facility needs.

Physical Requirements

Physically capable of performing all required duties including heavy lifting.

Prolonged sitting and standing throughout shift.

Must possess the ability to safely operate a yard truck, forklift and other equipment as required.
