Job Title: Director of Logistics
Level: Exempt, Department: Logistics, Reports to: Vice President- Supply Chain, Back up: Vice President- Supply Chain
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Administer TMS/YMS software.
- Recommend optimal transportation modes, carrier selection, routing, equipment, or frequency.
- Create policies or procedures for logistics activities.
- Train logistics department personnel in global logistics strategies.
- Resolve problems concerning transportation, logistics systems, imports, exports, or customer issues.
- Participate in carrier management processes.
- Evaluate carrier compliance with company policies or procedures.
- Negotiate transportation rates or services.
- Design models for evaluating logistics programs or services.
- Supervise logistics specialists, planners, or schedulers.
- Recommend purchase of new technology.
- Plan or implement improvements to internal or external logistics systems or processes.
- Collaborate with other departments to integrate logistics with business systems.
- Analyze financial impact of proposed logistics changes.
- Direct inbound or outbound logistics operations.
- Analyze corporate logistics to determine cost-effective means of transporting products.
- Communicate freight transportation information to customers or suppliers.
- Manage, train, and coach team members.
- Responsible for managing claims and returns.
- Calculate freight rates for sales team.
- Responsible for planning, monitoring, and/or managing budget in functional area of department.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Manage 4 employees.
- Manage $24M in freight spend.
- Manage 10,000 annual shipments to carriers.
Language Skills:
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as federal and state laws, legal documents, safety rules, operating and procedure manuals.
- Strong ability to communicate with others with written and verbal communication.
Mathematical Skills:
- Good mathematical skills to include basic algebra for calculations.
- Ability to perform advanced calculations and formulas.
